The racing Gods must be angry. It's raining this morning here in Tempe and the Phoenix area. On what is to be the final night for Manzanita Speedway. Here are a few pictures I thought I would share.....

At the last minute my real job prevented me from making the trip. I hope they get it in. Thanks for the pics. The video perch is visable in each one, brought a tear to my eye!

It's just wrong. The racing world should always have Manzanita Speedway. I still can't believe that Ascot Park is gone. Since I don't live in So Cal and have never gone back by there since the last sprint car race, I guess a part of me believes it's still there. In this day and age I just don't understand why someone from the wealthier end of the racing community (like NASCAR)hasn't stepped in to buy it or something. I know it's not that simple, but I just don't understand how someone without a lifelong passion for dirt racing could ever come to own it and then just sell it off like it was an empty lot. I guess I'm just being selfish because I was hoping to watch one of my kids or maybe grandkids race at Manzanita someday. If they do build a new track somewhere, I hope they make it as close a copy as possible and it's ok with me if they call it Manzanita (or maybe just Manzy).
