Murphy Finishes 9th in Antioch GSC Action

By Gary Costa

Antioch, Ca. (April 4, 2009) – Friday night, Peter Murphy's weekend started out at Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia. Murphy would pilot the Shaw Family 600. He would start 22nd, and proceeded to charge through the field to a 5th place finish.

"That was a blast!" said Murphy. "It doesn't matter if it's Plaza Park or Knoxville, I just love to race. There are a lot of good kids out here; they are the future of the sport."

Saturday, the two-time Non-Wing Grand Slam Series champion made the decision to skip the Grand Slam Series event in Ventura, in addition chose not defend his title. Instead he looked for promising results with the Winged Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series in Antioch for Round 2 of the 24 race series, in Rick Eberhardt's Maxim.

Eberhardt's "Lucky" No. 13 would hit the speedway with Murphy clocking in with a 12.681, which ironically qualified him in the 13th spot in the 27 car field. In Heat 2, Peter made the transfer for the feature with his 4th place finish.

Murphy would start 13th on the stout grid in the 30-lap feature. Murphy would have to be smart and use his skills around the tricky speedway, which eventually brought him a 9th place finish in the event.

"It was just so fun out there. The track was a challenge and I like that. Each corner was different, so you really had to stay focused and think. I haven't raced here in a couple of years, but I had a great time."

Up Next! The next race for Peter Murphy will be this weekend April 11th at the Tulare Thunderbowl. Peter will pull double-duty as he will race the Rick Eberhardt No. 13 Winged 410 Sprint Car with the Golden State Challenge Series and the Tom Tarlton owned Non-Wing No. 21 in Bandit Non-Wing 360 action.
