Why does Knoxville Raceway open so late in the year? Their first race this year is April 25th. I've never been there in the winter. Are their winters worse than winter in PA or OH? I like that they have a USAC sprint show on their schedule this year right before the Nationals. Great idea....Answer: Yesterday in Iowa, we had interstates closed,as much as 10 inches of snow in the Raceways trade area.
High winds and whiteout conditions.
May be one of the reason Knoxville waits LOL LOL LOL

Nodust I remember back in '97 watching the Masters on saturday while getting 12 inches of snow in Iowa City it must have been around the 10th or so. I also went through the IC tornado back in april 05 and the following day when it was in the 80's Ahhh Iowa weather, its like a box of chocolates
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Thanks Duane, Do you get snow every year in April? PA gets it sometimes after March but not too often.

Like they say here, "If you don't like the weather in Iowa, wait 5 minutes, it will change!"
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

As I've travelled around the country, I've found that they say that almost everywhere, except on the West Coast. :-)
Many moons ago, I was working on a contract that involved many trips to Ames, IA. I left Ames late in March, when there were 3 feet of snow on the ground. I came back a couple of weeks later. There was no snow. In fact, the afternoon temperature was over 80. I asked they owner of the motel, "When is Spring around here?" He replied, "You missed it. It was Tuesday."
