For Immediate Release: Point Race #1

Feather Falls Casino Point Championship Starts Friday Night

(Chico, CA 3-30-09)...The Feather Falls Casino point championship season begins this Friday night, April 3. Three divisions will be on hand including the 410 sprints, street stocks and wingless sprints. Sponsoring the night is Bell-Carter Olive Co. They will provide raffle gifts for the grandstand fans along with extra money for the winged sprint cars.

Front grandstand gate will open at 6 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm. Adult general admission is $11.00. Seniors and Juniors are $9.00 and children are $5.00. The sprint cars will qualify followed by all three divisions racing heats and main events.

Auburn's Andy Forsberg is the defending 410 sprint champion. He is committed to defend his title in 2009. Forsberg has teamed up with Chico driver Brett Miller. The two of them will have crew chief help from Brian Cannon. Miller is not only a teammate to Forsberg but one of the best drivers to try and dethrone Forsberg. Princeton's Mason Moore is another driver who looks to improve off his two-win third place point finish last season. Moore is a viable threat to win his first championship at Chico. The biggest switch in the off-season involves Sean Becker. The 2005 track champ is teaming with Brian Sperry and together they will race the #51. Sperry and Becker are teaming up with the Racing for the Troops team that will field two sprinters driven by veteran Bobby McMahan and rookie Kyle Harris. Two drivers who will add to the mix include Chico's Jonathan Allard and Loomis masher Kyle Hirst. Both are not expecting to run for the championship but both will be on hand quite often for the Friday night races. My dark horse this year involves two drivers. Robbie Whitchurch is going to get veteran crew chief leadership from Lee Watson. The two made a nice combination at the Silver Cup. Grass Valley veteran Mark Hall always runs competitively and is rumored to run all championship point races. However, it's hard to bet against experience and championships. Look for both Becker or Forsberg to win it all in 2009.

The Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprints are back for another year of racing. Their schedule of races has been modified a bit this year allowing them to have more weeks off. The response has been positive and drivers should be willing to follow the entire Chico series. The two top drivers that have committed to return for a full season include Chico's Jimmy Pettit and Chico St. Sophomore Taylor Simas. Both drivers finished the season in the top five of points. Pettit had a career win year with four. Simas chased champion Keith Bloom Jr. all season long only to come up a bit short. This year either one of these drivers is the odds on pick to win it all. Other competition will include Terry Schank Jr., Mitch Miller and the Myers brothers.

The Street Stocks are coming off their most successful season to date. Last year provided some of the best racing at the speedway while the final night championship point battle came down to three drivers. In the end it was Scott Rogers winning the championship. As of the awards banquet in November he was not sure of his status for 2009. Jeff Olschowka was present at last weekends Silver Cup but was entered in the dirt modified division. He won the opening night and looked comfortable in Ira Compton's #96. Chico's Heather Bartlett is returning to try and capture this track championship that has alluded he for the past two season's. Bartlett is my pick to get it done in 2009.
