Following Mini Gold Cup Mason Moore ready for Civil War opener
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – March 17, 2009…After running in the Mini Gold Cup this most recent weekend Princeton, CA's Mason Moore is now set to kick off the 2009 California Sprint Car Civil War Series season this Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway.
The 23rd annual Mini Gold Cup didn't go exactly how Moore would have liked as both night's ended in the C-main at the extremely competitive event that saw 54 cars in action over the double-header program, which was sanctioned by the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series for the first time since 1992.
The driver known as "Primetime" will put the Mini Gold Cup behind him this weekend as he hops back behind the wheel of the F&F Racing, A.R.T. Enterprise, Inventory Sales Company No. X1 sprinter to kick off his championship bid with the Civil War 360 Sprint Car Series.
Moore became the driver of the Steve Tuccelli/Alan Bradway owned machine late in the season last year and brought home a pair of top five finishes in two Civil War starts for the team. For 2009 the 18 year-old driver will pilot the X1 sprinter with the Civil War Series, as well during weekly events at the Placerville Speedway.
At the end of this past season Tuccelli talked about his excitement heading into the new year. "Alan Bradway and I are elated to have Mason driving for us and feel he is a very good fit for our team," Tuccelli said. "Mason is young & talented, very polite and a joy to be around, making him the type of person we want to have representing Friends & Family Racing. The Moore's are a great family and just plain good people as well so we're excited about this season."
Moore competed in the F&F Racing sprinter a couple weekend's ago in Marysville and the night started out well with him timing in third fastest out of 33 cars and transferring out of the heat race. The big 10 pill was drawn for the inversion however, and as the field bunched up on the start contact was made and it sent him upside down, which put an early end to the feature.
The Civil War Series schedule this year features 14 events at six different tracks in California. This weekend's opener at Placerville is expected to boast a large car count as competitors take to the always action-packed red-clay oval. The front gate opens at 5pm with qualifying set for 6:30 on Saturday evening.
In addition to competing in the F&F sprinter this season Moore will also be back aboard the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services, Platinum Powder Coating No. 22 at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday nights. The opening Feather Falls Casino 410 point race is scheduled for Friday night April 3 at the quarter-mile bullring located in Chico.
