Lakewood, CA. - The famous #4 "Silver Bullet" sprint car and its new driver David Cardey of Riverside, will be on hand at a planned fund raising event for the race team on Sunday afternoon, March 15, at the Zanzabuku Sports Lounge in Lakewood, CA.
The event marks the third consecutive year that the Lakewood bar has hosted the Alexander race team and their driver. Planned fund raising events include a raffle, 50/50 draw and a free taco bar. Raffle items include a first edition of Open Wheel magazine valued by some collectors to be worth at least $500. The first edition, collector's item features legendary sprint car driver Bubby Jones on the magazine's cover. Other racing related items, including race photos, will be added to the afternoon's raffle along with racing videos from Jeff Kristensen's Raceway Video that can be viewed by race fans on the bar's televisions. Everything gets started at 12:30 p.m. on March 15th. Karaoke begins at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.
Cardey finished sixth in USAC/CRA points last year, while running a somewhat limited race schedule. He drove the Ontario based ITI Performance Viper for sprint for car owner and businessman Glenn Crossno. This past season the 33-year old Cardey captured the second night main event at the prestigious Oval Nationals held at the end of the season at Perris Auto Speedway. Track announcer Scott Daloisio described his win as, "arguably the best ever 410 Sprint Car main event at the PAS." The win came on Cardey's birthday, Halloween night. Cardey was also the 2003 California Lightning Sprint Car champion.
Cardey steps into the cockpit of the Alexander sprinter following the very popular Tony Jones, who retired from sprint car racing in a surprise announcement at the close of last season. Jones was the 2007 USAC/CRA champion and finished fourth in points last year while running a limited race schedule. Cardey has stated that he feels no pressure in replacing Jones, who had the most wins at Perris for the past two seasons. Cardey is a very accomplished and confident driver and the team is prepared to make a run for the USAC/CRA Championship this season. The Silver Bullet team's next USAC/CRA race is scheduled at the Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday, March 28.
Returning sponsors for this season include La Villa Mexican Restaurant, Ferreira Dairy, SCRAFAN.COM, Racer's Pub in Riverside, VP Racing Fuels, Communication Innovations, Larry Murakami Contracting, Extreme Mufflers, Berdoo Auto Body, Scotty Stallmo Trucking, J&D Performance, Electro Tech Powder Coating, the 7th Street Chop Shop in San Pedro and the Zanzabuku Sports Lounge.
