Bud Kaeding ready to kick off Silver Crown season at Copper on Dirt/ Looking for sprint & midget ride for event
By Gary Thomas

Phoenix, Arizona – February 9, 2009…After competing at the Chili Bowl in mid-January Campbell, California’s Bud Kaeding is set to get back behind the wheel and kick off the 2009 K & N USAC Silver Crown Series season at the upcoming Sand’s Chevrolet Copper on Dirt at the Manzanita Speedway in Arizona. Kaeding is also looking for a sprint car and midget ride for the event.

At the 23rd annual Chili Bowl Kaeding brought home a 15th place finish during his preliminary night, before running 13th in the second of two B-main’s on Saturday’s finale. The 29 year-old drove the Murray Erickson owned No. 8 midget at the event, which saw a record 281 cars in competition over the five nights of racing at the Quicktrip Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The upcoming Sand’s Chevrolet Copper on Dirt at the Manzanita Speedway will take place on February 20 and 21 and Kaeding is looking forward to getting onto the track to kick off the Silver Crown season. “We’re excited to run the Copper cause we’ve always seemed to have success at Manzanita,” the two-time Silver Crown Series champ said. In fact Kaeding is also a two-time winner of the prestigious Western World Championships held each November at the legendary half-mile dirt track.

At last season’s Copper on Dirt, Kaeding qualified fourth quickest in the 18 car Silver Crown Series field and spent much of the early stages of the main event battling it out with Jon Stanbrough, before taking the lead on the 14th circuit. He then held the top spot all the way till lap 38 when eventual Silver Crown champ Jerry Coons Jr. was able to get by to take command and put Kaeding back to second, where he would go on to finish. It was the start of a partial series schedule that Kaeding followed and at the end of the season he finished ninth in the season long standings.

For this year’s Copper on Dirt at the Manzanita Speedway Kaeding is in search of a sprint car and midget ride and is also looking for a possible ride at the upcoming Las Vegas and Perris USAC events. Last season saw the Campbell veteran compete without the wing on a very limited basis, but each time had success, be it in a sprint car or a midget.

In November Kaeding scored a sixth place finish at the Budweiser Oval Nationals in Perris, an event he’s won on three different occasions in his career and also finished 13th at the Western World, during what were his only two wingless sprint car starts last season. In a midget last season Kaeding picked up a pair of podiums and a fourth place finish in three starts for Mike Sala Racing with the Bay Cities Racing Association.

Kaeding is coming off a season that also saw him finish third in points with the Golden State Challenge 410 Sprint Car Series and also score a tie for fourth in the final Ocean Speedway 360 track standings. He’ll kick off his winged sprint car season at the upcoming World of Outlaw Sprint Series event at Ocean Speedway on March 7 and is planning on running with the “Greatest Show on Dirt” at the Mini Gold Cup in Chico the following weekend as well as at the Thunderbowl Raceway the weekend after that.

Bud Kaeding and BK Motorsports will be racing this season with support from Kaeding Performance, Alviso Rock, Chuck Trimble, K & N Filters, Yak Graphics, MDR Machine, Gordon Smith, Swift Metal Finishing, MPD Racing Products, High Five Pizza, Sala Racing, Angelos ATV Rental, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Maxim Chassis, Shaver Engines, Flowmaster and GT Promotions.

I wonder why Kaeding will not be driving the BK #29 sprinter at the at the Copper in two weeks? Good luck to Bud in the Silver Crown and finding a ride in the other two USAC divisions.
