Brett Miller geared up for 2009 season

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – February 7, 2009…As Northern California teams get ready to kick off the racing season in just about one month from now Chico, CA's Brett Miller is excited and ready to begin his fourth full year of sprint car competition behind the wheel of his grandparents Care Free Pools No. 1x machine.

Before the actual sprint car season starts however, Miller will take part in the DMS Driver Challenge, which is presented to some of the top young racing talent around and takes place at the Madera Speedway in Madera, CA. At the event drivers will be showcasing their talents in a USAC Pavement Midget in front of influential industry insiders and selected drivers will be offered a contract to compete in various USAC National & Western States Midget Series races aboard the DMS house car.

Following the DMS Driver Challenge Miller will be ready to begin the 2009 sprint car season, in which he'll be contending for the Silver Dollar Speedway 410 track title, as well as competing in other selected races, including some World of Outlaws Sprint Series events.

Last season saw Miller finish seventh in the final Feather Falls Casino weekly 410 standings at Silver Dollar Speedway, despite missing five events throughout the year. The 19 year-old was able to tally seven top 10 finishes in eleven starts, which included picking up his third career 410 sprint car victory during Care Free Pools Night at speedway on August 1. That event also turned out to be his final night of racing for 2008, due to the fact that he was taking part in the California Regional Fire Academy in Sacramento during the later parts of the year.

The past couple of seasons have seen Miller persevere though an inordinate amount of tough luck, but the former Silver Dollar Speedway, Golden State Challenge Series & Civil War Series Rookie of the Year is poised to put that behind him entering the '09 season. "We're ready to get some of that bad luck out of the way and start showing the true potential of this team," Miller said. "These guys have worked hard and I truly believe we can be a top five each and every night."

The final handful of races of the season for Miller last year showed an improved level of performance including his victory on August 1, as well as a runner-up finish to Jonathan Allard on July 11 during a weekly Chico point show and an eighth place finish with the Golden State Challenge Series at Silver Dollar on July 5. "I've got a lot of confidence coming into the season with the way we ran in our last few events and I really think we're going to have a good year and have some fun," he commented.

Miller and the Care Free Pools team will also be supporting the Butte Humane Society once again this season. Last year Miller raised $3,000 for the Humane Society and is hoping to gain as much support from everyone this season to present them with another large check at the end of the year.
