Kenny Shepherd announced at today's Chowchilla Speedway meeting that the Bandit series will race about 5 shows at Chowchilla. Other classes on those nights will include spec. sprints (NCMA), winged cars (Wright One 360's), and possibly midgets (USAC and BCRA). He also said there will be a big race around Halloween, that includes the same classes plus 410 winged cars.

Track improvements are to take place. Wider track, more clay, and more banking will be added. This should make Chowchilla a great track to race.

I'm excited about this. Everyone really enjoyed running there a couple years ago at the 410 Shootout and I know the one thing I thought, as did everyone else, was that if they widened the exit of the turns and made the banking consistent all the way around, then it could be one of the best tracks in the state. Should be a great place and I'm really happy that it's been kick-started by Kenny Sheperd.

Totally agree w/ GT. Chowchilla has the best location as it is central to the valley, the bay area and not bad for the Sac/Chico guys. Don't know Sheperd but his reputation is good. After seeing the improvements made to Ocean over the past couple of years this place could be the next jewel. Hopes are high

That's the other key that I really believe goes well is the fact that it is very centrally located for all the teams and fans alike. It's in a great location for all of us in Northern and Central Cali.

Schedule will be up Tuesday. Hopefully no conflicts with other big shows, so there will be good car counts.

Only three Chowchilla dates for the Bandits, but with Tulare and Bakersfield there will be lots of opportunities to watch or race. Hanford is going to run some too. I hope this is a great year for local tracks.

LMAO, this is the REAL, ORIGINAL and ONLIEST TRUE BANDITS.  Y'all are too funny.  I agree it is a great thing.  This puts the Bandit Series at 20 great races at 5 class venues.

With all of the work at Chowchilla, we all are excited and have high hopes.  I look forward to going there.  I have never been.

Hey Surfnsprint, The Bandits ARE the thrilla at Chowchilla on Jully 11, Aug. 22 and September 12. All clear for the 'All Coast Challenge...we'll see you for sure on April 4th for our Bandit Opener and the Grand Slam Opener at Ventura Raceway....BTW, looking on the VRA website, Jim and the crew are doing a great deal of work there. Can't wait to see it.

One of exciting things about Chowchilla is the team is putting new clay, increasing the banking and a few other changes to make the track better. Been hearing great things from a diverse group for a while, not just those with a vested interest other than good racing. Locals, Late-Model, winged and non-winged people are all pretty enthused. Hope the fan base is and they get good support, love to see it successful.

thanks Pete

I thought the opening thread said there was going to be five Bandit shows at Chowchilla

In any case we are dark in Ventura on August 22 and that might be my shot to get up there and check it out

In the meantime, I just like saying the word

Chowchilla

surfnsprint: The confusion may have originated with the scheduling of five Team Wright One 360 winger shows at Chowchilla. BTW look forward to this year's first edition of one of the best racing columns in the country. Smile
