Sammy won - actually he won every race he has been in so far. the RoC. and he went from 6th to 1st in both his heat and qualifier. JJ Yeley came in 2nd. Jon Stanbrough 3rd.

very impressive was the drives of the regional winged fellas. Kevin Ramey advanced through a B Main as did Gary Wright. by my calculations - Ramey was 7th. Goodman 9th. and Gary Wright 10th. those may not be right - but they are close.

one of - if not the - scariest Bowl momet in history - (according to some sittin near me who attended all 23 of em) - was former winner Tim McCreadie clearing the turn 1 fence crazy style. McCreadie was leading - when something under the right rear broke - as he sent her in hard in turn one - the tire crumpled underneath the car - actually launching him. he cleared the turn 1 fence with seemingly great aim at the once thought lucky VIP fans that sit up on the scaffolding off of turn 1. the car came to a rest directly below them. McCreadie began to exit the car - but must have been shaken up - as they brought a backboard over there to help remove him - he walked away but with much help. the crash was scarily remiscent of Josh Howards career ending crash at the 2007 Short Track Nationals. the car came down with much velocity - landing on all 4 wheels - HARD on the CONCRETE. hopefully the back and neck is only sore. just a very scary crash. this only my 3rd year - but many around said that in all of their they have seen very few crashes like that. almost just as scary as the danger to the driver - and maybe even more so - was the horrific position the VIP fans looked to be in on that turn 1 scaffolding. after many replay though - me and my gril confirmed - hardly any of those folks even flinched even as mccreadie was aimed right at em. it really did look like he was gonna land up there - and he did not fall short by much. those people - aside from likely severely puckered assholes at the time - are very lucky. good for them. and i hope McCreadie was not seriously injured.

all that aside. i'm sure if some lucky fan caught it - it will be on youtube by midway through next week...

Tim McCreadie, 34, was leading a qualifying semifinal when something broke in his car's rear end. The car flipped violently and went over a fence.

Examinations at a Tulsa hospital showed a fractured T3 vertebra and other damage. He was fitted for neck and back brace Thursday and was expected to consult with Dr. Terry Trammell, the renowned Indianapolis orthopedic surgeon.

McCreadie won the 2006 World of Outlaws late model series championship. Although he has spent much of his career racing on dirt, in 2007 McCreadie competed in six NASCAR Nationwide Series events for Richard Childress Racing.

Efforts were being made to set up a fund to assist McCreadie, who has no medical insurance, and offers of assistance with expenses have already started to come in from the racing community.

For now, donations can be made to the U.S. Auto Club and sent to USAC c/o Tim McCreadie Support Fund, USAC, 4910 West 16th Street, Speedway, Ind. 46224.

Shooting pics, I was setting in turn 1 when this happened. I donated a little money to a fund the Hoosier trailer had going for him. Speaking with the Hoosier guys, they said that there was a back specialist coming down from Indy to look at him. They also said that they were gonna try to get him stable enough to make an appearance on Saturday nights show, have not heard anything since if it is true or not. Here is a one of 3 shots I got of the wreck.

Sammy really put it on 'em! I don't think anyone there could have caught him.

I talked to the Hoosier guys again last nite, and they said that Tim was able to go to his hotel room yesterday for a little while and then Tony Stewart was flying him to Indy to see the back specialist. Tim doesn't have any insurance and they auctioned off a banner signed by all the drivers last night after the race. When I left it was up to $250 and still going up.

Yes, the "Hey Guy" auctioned off is "Hey" sign that was autographed my most of the drivers. The winning bid was $300.

There was an announcement made during the pre-A feature festivities that $17,000 had been raised for Tim's fund.

Also, Frank Polimeda, # 44F from Ft. Lee, NJ, took a tremendous flip down the front straightaway in the second C feature at the checks. He was fighting for a transfer and it looked like he hooked the berm coming off 4 on the last lap and started an ugly series of snap rolls that looked like a gymnastic floor routine, complete with doubleflip dismount at the entrance to turn one.

He was conscious and talking when they took him out on a backboard and stretcher. I never heard any word on his condition after that. The cage on his Spike chassis was slightly bent (and ruined) on the left side of the halo, but otherwise it looked like it held up. Good for Spike.

Tremendous night and week of racing.

The replay of that flip looked like he just didn't let out when he pulled the front tires off the ground and then his bumper dragged and pulled it to one side and started the rolling and tumbling. The crew in the infield said that he had a concussion and was dazed pretty good. Also, I'm not sure the number or the drivers name, but there was a pretty good wreck on the back stretch and the crew said that he broke his collar bone.
