Sprint Bandits TNT 2009 Slate is Set

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (January 20, 2009) – Race fans throughout the middle portion of the nation will once again be treated to the elite in non-wing Sprint Car racing action this August, as the Fifth Annual Sprint Bandits Tour 'N Topless Midwest Swing has been set.

This year's Sprint Bandits TNT swing will once again consist of six nights of competition at five different tracks from August 16 to August 22, with the series in action throughout Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas.

This year's edition of TNT will open at a new venue before wrapping up with Lakeside Speedway's popular $10,000-to-win Ron Shuman Classic on Saturday, August 22.

Set to host the Sprint Bandits Tour 'N Topless series for the first time is Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, IA, which will be the site of this year's TNT opener on Sunday night, August 16.

The following night, it's on to Nebraska Raceway Park's I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE, for the annual Husker Nationals on Monday, August 17. Dave Darland has topped the past two editions of I-80 Speedway's Husker Nationals, with other past winners including Robert Ballou (2006) and Levi Jones (2005).

With Tuesday's action yet to be determined, TNT re-ignites on Wednesday night, August 19, at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway. In 2008, Brady Bacon captured his first career feature win in wingless 410-ci Sprint Car competition before his home state crowd at State Fair Speedway, with Levi Jones also a TNT winner in Oklahoma City in 2005.

The series then moves up the Turner Turnpike to Sapulpa, Oklahoma's Creek County Speedway near Tulsa. Brady Bacon outdueled Robert Ballou for top TNT honors at the ¼-mile bullring in 2008, denying Ballou a second consecutive TNT score at Creek County after a 2007 triumph.

The Fifth Annual Sprint Bandits TNT Midwest Swing concludes with one of the nation's premier non-wing event with Lakeside Speedway's $10,000-to-win Ron Shuman Classic on Friday and Saturday, August 21-22. Ballou has topped the last two editions of the Ron Shuman Classic, with other past winners including Brad Sweet (2006), Bud Kaeding (2005 and 2002), Jesse Hockett (2004 and 2003), Troy Rutherford (2001) and Tony Elliott (2000).

While the Lakeside finale offers up a $10,000 winner's share, the events at Rapid Speedway, I-80 Speedway, State Fair Speedway and Creek County Speedway each include a $4,000 winner's cut.

Dave Darland is the reigning Sprint Bandits TNT champion, with other past Sprint Bandits TNT Midwest Swing champions including Robert Ballou and Tim Kaeding (2007 co-champions), Jesse Hockett (2006) and Levi Jones (2004).

2009 Sprint Bandits TNT Schedule:

August 16 – Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, IA)

August 17 – I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, NE)

August 18 – TBD

August 19 – State Fair Speedway (Oklahoma City, OK)

August 20 – Creek County Speedway (Sapulpa, OK)

August 21 – Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, KS)

Santa Maria Speedway / Bandit Sprints - 2009

The 2009 Santa Maria Speedway and the Bandit Schedule are posted and up. After nearly 5 months of hard work and negotiations to bring you the finest short track schedule with few conflicts, everything is in place for yet another racy year at Santa Maria Speedway. With only days left before on track activities, the staff is working on all the final details. The schedule can be accessed by going to www.santamariaspeedway.com and clicking on the 2009 Schedule bar. As you will see, the SMS Menu looks a lot like last years with a few noticeable additions with possibly more to come. Most noticeable is the return of the winged 410 GSC series slated for July 11th. Also a complete Bandit schedule is also available by clicking on the 2009 Bandit Schedule bar below.

Drying efforts have been underway since the first rains of the season to keep up with the water at the speedway. So far so good.

SCHEDULE IS RELEASED FOR THE MSCS 2009 SEASON

Haubstadt, IN - Feb 1, 2009. Today the officials of the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series are releasing the complete schedule for the 2009 racing season. This year?s schedule includes 18 dates at tracks across a three state region. MSCS will once again appear in the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky.

The season will open on Saturday night May 2nd at the Terre Haute Action Track. The half mile facility will once again be under the management of DHK Promotions in 2009. Sunday May the third will serve as a rain date if one is needed.

The second race will be the next week on Saturday at Tri-State Speedway. The May 9th event will be the first of seven MSCS race cards at the Southwestern Indiana track. Tri-State Speedway has served as the port of call for the touring MSCS series since 2006. Promoters Tom & Loris Helfrich will host the series at least once a month in June, July, and August. In May and September the MSCS sprints will make two appearances at the quarter mile facility.

Florence Speedway in Union, KY, will have 2 MSCS races during 2009. The first is set for May 16th and a second show will be held on August 29th. The track is a fast, banked half mile oval which is promoted by Jerry King.

Fans and competitors of MSCS can plan to spend a portion of all three holiday racing weekends at Tri-State Speedway. Programs on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday July 4th, and the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend will all feature $3,000 to win MSCS Sprint shows. The POWR i Midgets will also be in competition with the sprints on July 4th. Drivers have an opportunity to do double time by racing in both divisions.

On Saturday May 30th Clay County Speedway at Flora, IL, will present an MSCS Sprint program. That race will be the fifth consecutive week of racing for the series. ;MSCS will have had a show each of the 5 weekends in May. Track promoter Richard Burmeister has also agreed to a second date for the series at his third mile oval. That date is on August 15th.

June 5th will also be the first of two nights of racing for the MSCS series at Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, IL. The purse for the first show is topped with $3,000 to win. The next night June 6th the cars and drivers will be back at Tri-State Speedway to compete with the King of Indiana Sprints (KISS) for a top prize of $2500.

Vermilion County Speedway at Danville, IL, will offer MSCS sprints Saturday night June 27th and then again on Saturday night September 12th. The new track promoter at the quarter mile facility is Joe Spiker.

The first of an increased number of high dollar shows to be held in 2009 will be the annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Haubstadt, IN, on August 1st. The feature will pay $5,000 to win. On September 18th Bloomington Speedway promoter Mike Miles will present a MSCS sanctioned special event by paying $5,000 to win the feature. The Friday night event is just 24 hours ahead of the 2nd annual Haubstadt Hustler Sprint 50 at Tri-State Speedway. These 2 back to back shows within two hours of travel time present some high stakes for race teams to consider. The Haubstadt Hustler Sprint 50 will pay $10,000 to win again this season!

On Friday September 25th the Morgan County Speedway at Jacksonville, IL, will be presenting the 18th annual Shaheen?s Back from the Past but this year it will be MSCS sanctioned and pay $10,000 to win. The addition of this race to the schedule will provide three $10,000 to win shows in three weeks for MSCS competitors to target. Morgan County Speedway promoter Billy West continues to strive to provide his track?s fan base with an opportunity to witness top notch sprint car racing action.

The season will end with the Lawrenceburg Nationals on Saturday October 4th. That is the third race this coming season set to pay $10,000 to win, It will again serve as the last race for the 2009 MSCS season and as the night that the 2009 MSCS Sprint Car Champion will be crowned! Promoter Dave Rudisell?s new 3/8s of a mile track is a dazzling place to race!

In 2009 the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will race at eight different facilities. Drivers winning the features these night will collect a total of $73,500 as the winner?s portion of all the combined purses. MSCS certainly appreciates and acknowledges the support and co-operation of all the Speedway owners, promoters, and staff members in working together to create this schedule and such a promising season.

Northwest Wingless Tour prepares for 2009 debut
by Andrew Kunas

PORTLAND, Ore. - The new Northwest Wingless Tour is getting ready for its first full season of action on the dirt tracks of the Pacific Northwest.

The NWWT, which was formed during the summer of 2008, features wingless 360 sprint cars and open midgets and currently has ten races scheduled at three different tracks in Oregon and Washington. One or two other events may be added to the schedule at a later time.

Cottage Grove Speedway, located about 15 minutes south of Eugene, will serve as the unofficial home track of the tour as it is currently scheduled to host seven Northwest Wingless Tour events. The track’s annual Grove Classic event, which dates back to 2002, has featured winged 360 sprint cars every year. In 2009, wingless sprint cars will be a part of that weekend for the first time as the NWWT opens its season at “The Grove” on April 25.

Cottage Grove, the -mile, high-banked clay oval considered by many to be Oregon’s home to sprint car racing, will also host races on May 23rd on Memorial Weekend, June 6th and 27th, July 18th, August 15th and September 12th. Several of the local racers who usually run with the wings on top of the cars will take them off to try their luck with the Northwest Wingless Tour.

Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore. will twice host the series in 2009. Willamette, a long time home to dirt late model and stock car racing, has hosted winged sprint cars dozens of times in the past, but in September of last year the track held a wingless sprint car event in which many of the teams racing in the Northwest Wingless Tour this year took part in. The event was won by longtime winged racer Roger Crockett. Jeff Bell won the midget main event that night as well.

The first show at Willamette this season will be on Friday, June 5th during the track’s annual Strawberry Cup weekend. A race at Cottage Grove, about an hour down Interstate 5, is the next night. That weekend has drawn attention from many California midget teams who have expressed interest in coming up to race in Oregon.

The Northwest Wingless Tour is scheduled to close its inaugural season at Willamette Speedway on October 3rd when the track holds its Fall Classic event.

On Labor Day weekend, the tour will cross the Columbia River into the state of Washington. On Saturday, September 5th, the sprint cars of the NWWT will visit Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. The big 3/8-mile clay oval underwent a major renovation prior to the 2004 season and is widely considered as one of the finest dirt track facilities in the western United States.

The Northwest Wingless Tour’s show on Setpember 5th is the first of three nights of racing at Grays Harbor Raceway. The ASCS Northwest Region (the Northwest’s touring winged 360 series), NPP Late Models from Alberta, and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will also race in Elma that weekend. While the Outlaws will be at another track on the 5th, there could still be several ASCS and local drivers who may likely take the wings off also to try their hand at “traditional” sprint car racing as well.

The NWWT also has a pending event on August 8th and hopes to announce a race on that date soon.

The Northwest Wingless Tour will have its own format and qualifying will be held at every event. A standard purse has also been established and could increase with additional sponsorship.

A new Internet website for the series is also in the works. Are you on MySpace? The Northwest Wingless Tour is on MySpace also and you can visit them at http://www.myspace.com/nwwt.
