World Racing Group Steps Away From Orange County Negotiations

Clears Path For Track Owners To Pursue Long-Term Lease

CONCORD, N.C. — Jan. 8, 2009 — In a mutual decision, the World Racing Group has stepped away from negotiations for a multi-year lease of Orange County Fair Speedway, allowing the Gurda family to pursue its quest for a long-term partner.

The World Racing Group will focus its efforts on sanctioning events at the Middletown, N.Y., track, including Eastern States Weekend in October and a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event on Sunday, May 17.

"Orange County Fair Speedway is a successful operation," said World Racing Group President Tom Deery. "However, with our Northeast operation based near Syracuse, it was increasingly difficult to fit the day-to-day operations into our overall plan."

George Johnson, Ken Sands, Peter Reynolds and Doug Dulgarian guided Orange County's weekly and special event success the past two seasons.

"Orange County has a deep motorsports history and foundation of passionate fans and participants, our tenure has been extremely rewarding and we are anxious to work with the new management team," Deery said. "The weekly program and special events like the Outlaws and Eastern States are very healthy and the new team will make it stronger."
