Brett Miller Chili Bowl bound after graduating Fire Academy/ Butte Humane Society donation PR

Chico, California – January 3, 2009…After running a very limited schedule during the later parts of this most recent season Chico, California’s Brett Miller is set to kick off his 2009 campaign with the upcoming 23rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

This past year saw Miller take college classes as well as take part in the California Regional Fire Academy in Sacramento. Due to that the 19 year-old was forced to run very sporadically during the last half of the season, in fact was only able to compete a couple times from August until the end of the year.

Miller, who also had part of his summer occupied by helping to fight the fires that had engulfed the surrounding Chico area, graduated from the California Regional Fire Academy on December 13. “It was a grind, but it feels good to have completed the academy and it was a great experience and something I definitely feel that I can take with me,” Miller said.

With the Chili Bowl fast approaching Miller got in some practice time this past Thursday during an open play day at Cycleland Speedway. Miller will once again be driving the Fauver Race Ready Rentals, Care Free Pools No. 64 midget in the Chili Bowl. At the Cycleland playday he was able to get in three practice sessions as Rod Fauver and the team gets everything fine tuned for the huge event.

This will mark Miller’s second attempt at the prestigious Chili Bowl and he’s excited to hit the track for his qualifying night on Thursday January 15. “Last year was a lot of fun and with the added experience of running it before I think we’ll be that much more prepared for it this year,” Miller commented. “The midget felt good at playday so I can’t wait to hit the track in less than a couple weeks.”

Last season also saw Miller get some good ink in Bobby Gerould’s positivity column recapping the Chili Bowl. “Brett Miller impressed during his Saturday afternoon racing. Miller ripped the top of the track and passed cars like a veteran even though it was his first try at it," Gerould said following the 22nd running of the event last year.

The former Golden State Challenge Series, Silver Dollar Speedway and Civil War Series Rookie of the Year will look for a successful qualifying night to give him as many points as possible towards Saturday’s starting line-ups. With nearly 300 entries it will make the qualifying nights extremely critical in having any hopes of making the A-main event come Saturday evening. This year will also see good friend and wingless spec sprint ace Taylor Simas heading back to Tulsa to help out Miller in the pits. Action at the Chili Bowl kicks off on Tuesday January 13 with the opening prelim night that will kick off the five day event.

Butte Humane Society Donation:

This past season also saw Miller and Care Free Pools Racing raise money for the Butte Humane Society throughout the year. With Miller being out of town however, he hadn’t had the opportunity to present the money until this past week when he and Grandpa Bill went down to the Society and presented them with a $3,000 check.

During Care Free Pools Night at Silver Dollar Speedway on August 1 Miller and the team collected $2,000 alone thanks to the generosity of everyone on hand. “I just want to thank everyone who helped and donated throughout the entire year cause we really do appreciate it a ton,” Miller said.

In addition to collecting the money during the evening on Care Free Pools Night, Miller also went out and won the 25 lap main event, holding off two-time track champ Andy Forsberg to pick up his third career 410 sprint car victory. It also happened to be the final time Miller was able to compete in a race last season, as engine problems forced him to scratch following hot laps during the 17th annual Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals at Chico in October.
