The new book by Bud Hunnicutt sold out in less than a month.Titled "Up On The Wheel",with only one appearance on the radio program "Racin Boys" and no professional advertising , it caught on like wild fire when fans of the Kansas City area heard about it.It detailed Midget racing,Sprint car racing Modified racing and also the old Jalopy racing at the Kansas City racetracks covering a span of 70 years.Principally it dealt with the personalities and memorable characters of the era and left the statistics to others to chronicle. It is the 190 photos that catch your eye on your first glance through the 152 pages but the comments that are coming in are about Bud's writing. To quote one buyer: "He writes like he talks " ! " I can't believe that he wrote this all by himself" but Bud says " As a High School dropout it ought to be obvious ! "

The only ones that are available now are the ones that will be available at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. They purchased a case of 14 books and unless there is a reprint that is IT !

Bud intends to see if there is enough interest to consider ordering a reprint.

Thanks again Kansas City ! Bud's Bride

Hold out on the reprint. I should be able to scalp my copy for thousands IF I can find someone named Andrew that wants a personalized copy to them.!!!

Loved the "Budisms" in the book. If I didnt know better I would think he was from Maine with his sense of humor and the way he looks at things in life.

Glad to hear the first printing was a success.

Looks like someone in the US or Australian Customs service is a Kansas Modified fan, as my copy still hasn't found its way to Sydney.

Don't worry Keet ... we'll track it down using that reference number you gave me.

Glad to hear that you are on the trail of the elusive copy of "Up On The Wheel",Pete.I have been losing sleep over this mystery.

We have established that Bud's amusing points of view are meeting with raves from the people that were written about in the book----now all we have to do is figure out why the boy cannot address a package so that it will reach it's intended destination ?

Alfa carol persevered until she got to the heart of it in Dallas so I have confidence that you will find the one that Bud meant for you.(We always warn yanks to look for the jelly stains if we suspect the mailman is the reason for their ALWAYS late Speed Sport so I guess you need to check the book for vegamite smears, right ?)

Check out the photos on page 106 and the last page of the book which are my personal favorites.Hope the racing at Parramatta is going to suit you----HOW BOUT THAT LASOSKI !!!!HE IS STARTING OFF THE YEAR RIGHT----AND IF IT CARRIES OVER TO THE CHILI BOWL---WE'LL BE THERE TO SEE IT. GO !SHOW-ME !!

Hero to zero tonight for Danny ...

Missed the cut via his heat and had to come through the B Main. Started off 17 and finished 14th.

The man of the moment again though was D Schatz who took the lead from fast time man S Kinser around lap 16 and never looked back.

The 30 lapper went flag to flag and started 24 cars with all 24 finishing.

The Sportsbet odds for Night 2 tomorrow will be up soon. If Schatz is anything more than 2/1 to take the $50k, then the flood of punters' cash shouldn't weigh him down at all. Mine will be on him for sure.

Your other favourite Aussie in Trevor Green finished the A Main in 11th after coming out of the B where he started 10th .... easily taking the Hard charger honours on the night. A great effort in stellar company.

Thanks for the update,Pete.

As I recall,Donnie had not yet hit his stride when we were there visiting Ratbag with him that day.But that was then and this is now.How DOES he get all that loot home with him every year ? I understand there is a method to beat the customs laws.

Say hello to Peter Hansen for us.

Later. Keet
