Is the voting for various awards like Rookie of the Year and the wildcard award based on a national vote like the overall poll itself? I ask because the 410 Rookie of the Year award makes no sense whatsoever. Pat Cannon ran a total of nine 410 races all year, winning once at Williams Grove. Meanwhile, John Westbrook ran Williams Grove and Port Royal weekly, winning three 410 features overall (once at the Grove and twice at Port) prior to his tragic accident in September. Westbrook was even 410 RoY at the Grove over Cannon. I just wondered because it really doesn't make much to give the award to a guy that raced nine times in the division last year.

John Westbrook had made enough starts in a 410 prior to the 1 July 2007 cut-off for this poll and was ineligible for consideration.

Thanks for the answer, Michael. But what is the cutoff number? How is that accurate? Eckert's www.openwheeltimes.com database shows that Westbrook entered 2008 with just two career 410 starts. Both of those "410" races were early season 2006 shows at Selinsgrove in which Westbrook ran his 358 with the 410s. He never raced a 410 prior to this season.

That's why he wasn't eligible. Any start in a 410 prior to July 1 2007. Rules are rules.

Thank you for the clarification, Michael and jah42. I disagree that two starts with a 358 filling the field at a 410 show should disqualify a guy from being considered a 410 rookie, but I appreciate you guys explaining the rules.
