Myers Brothers Racing persevere through ’08 year & look ahead to ‘09

By Gary Thomas

Browns Valley, CA – November 19, 2008…The 2008 season was a grueling one for Myers Brothers Racing having competed in 30 events alone split between Silver Dollar and Placerville Speedway’s, but despite the long and tough year the Browns Valley, California based team will be back at it next season once again running with the Chico/Placerville Wingless Sprint Car Series.

This past season marked the second year in the wingless spec sprint division for the Myers Brothers Racing Team and before the year started engine builder Steve Scott brought up the sophomore jinx to team owner Blane Myers. “I kind of shrugged it off and said that won’t happen to us,” Myers said. “But sophomore jinx or not it just seemed like nothing could go right half of the time this year. We were quick pretty much every night, but were just snake bitten with bad luck all season long and it made us work real hard.”

Despite the tough luck it was certainly an experience building season and showed the character of the team as Mason and Cody were two of just four drivers who competed in all 28 Hunt Magnetos Wingless Point Races this year. “Coming into the season we had the goal of making every race at Chico and Placerville and to be able to do that with the way the year went is really gratifying,” Myers said. “There were some times when we had to work late into the night and part of the day to be able to get back to the track, but we gained a lot of experience in doing so.”

Despite not picking up a win during the year the team came really close and the two most heartbreaking moments came in August when Mason looked to be on way to victory early in the month until a problem took him out of the running just a handful of laps shy of the checkered. Then during Coca Cola Championship Night on the last weekend of August Mason once again looked to be on way to getting a win, until a broken shock with a few laps left allowed eventual champ Keith Bloom Jr. to close in and get by on the very last turn to steal away the victory.

At the end of the point season Mason found himself finishing third in the final Hunt Magnetos/Feather Falls Casino standings with brother Cody right behind him in fourth. The Myers Brothers Racing Team then finished the year with the fourth annual Wingless Nationals at Silver Dollar Speedway and it saw Cody running in second at the start of Saturday’s main event as he challenged for the lead early on, before claiming a seventh place finish at the stripe as he fought the car in the second half of the race. Mason lined-up in the seventh row during the 30 lap contest and was able to methodically carve his way forward to end the race in sixth.

The Myers Brothers Racing Team would like to thank all of the sponsors from this past season who made it possible to get out to the track each and every weekend. As always the team is also searching for more sponsors to try and help out and we’re looking forward to working with anybody who comes on board.

For 2009 the brother-duo will be back competing in the wingless division at both Silver Dollar Speedway and Placerville Speedway and to get a head start on the year Mason has been having fun running the competitive indoor outlaw kart races in Red Bluff. “We’re excited for next year and hopefully we’ll get some wins and run consistently because we have to shake off the bad luck sooner or later. I think the experience from this past season will really benefit us next year as the season gets going” Myers concluded.

The next event for Myers Brothers Racing will be the upcoming John Padjen Motorsports Year End Awards Banquet on Saturday night November 29. For a sponsor list and contact info for potential marketing partners please visit our website at

Hey Gary, as always great job in promoting these two racing brothers. One thing though, get rid of the white helmets. Something about a "black" helmet looks so cool in racing. Smile Anyway, good luck to the Meyers brothers next year!
