I just read an article written by Matt Calkins in the Riverside Press Enterprise about the Orange Show Speedway. I thought I would post it here and get some feedback from you guys. I have never been to the Orange Show, so I don't know how big of track it is. I know that it is pavement and that’s all. What USAC open-wheel series could possibly run there? Pavement sprinters, midgets, Ford Focus midgets? 10:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 By MATT CALKINS The Press-Enterprise Orange Show Speedway promoter Joe Ganino was hoping his track would benefit somehow. The man running the San Bernardino venue thought that maybe the high gas prices would force the local gear heads to come his way rather than commute all the way out to Irwindale or wherever else they might usually take in a night of racing. But it wasn't to be. Like many other businesses, Orange Show suffered right along with the economy, watching track attendance drop 30 percent. There were early talks of the track closing for the season, but Ganino insisted that "that wasn't going to happen on my watch." So there were staff cuts. There were schedule changes. But the season will go on through Nov. 1. From there, Ganino plans to make changes heading into 2009. Among the alterations Ganino would like to see is the addition of USAC open-wheel racing to the program. Other modifications may include combining the Super Late Models with the Late Models. But some are still reeling from the effects of the changes this year. Tom Whitson was leading the Pure Stock division and looking for his first title, a feat that had been achieved by his brother Mark. But last month, the track abruptly canceled the season -- leaving him in first place but without a championship. Other divisions, such as the Pro 4s, have watched their purses decline, though Ganino said drivers are still enthusiastically showing up for the races. "The race cars and the racetrack are uniting," Ganino said. RADROBINLB

I'm actually going to Orange Show this weekend for the TQ race. Also, I believe that they are running the Jr. Ford Focuses are running as well. I've been there multiple times with the TQ's before, as well as with the Ford Focuses and Midgets 3 years ago. The track is pretty small...only a 1/4 mile, and it's pretty narrow. It's a good size for TQ's and Focuses and maybe Midgets...sprint cars are out of the question. The last time the midgets were there unfortunately there wasn't any passing. What was interesting with Orange Show is that their fans really enjoy the open wheel cars. They always would come down after the races to ask questions and show support.

Wow, I had no idea the track was that small. Thanks for the info.

The PRA Jr. Midget Series (AKA Jr. Focus') will be running at Orange Show this weekend 10/11/08. It is an awesome track for the Focus & Jr. Focus Midgets. A hand full of kids have already ran a few JMS races there this year and put on a great show. The Great Wally Pankratz is at OS on a regular basis running his Driver School Program. He is by far one of the best instructors for these new young drivers I have ever seen.

Joe Ganino does a great job running his program and really wants to get the Open Wheel cars back on his track. The track had new pavement laid down on the infield so it stays very clean. Good JMS lap times are13:5 and good FF time’s are13:1. I hope to see many races scheduled for next year.

Go to www.swansonmotorsports.com/id23.html Jake Swanson's #88 Jr. Focus page, to see and read about the JMS series. You will have to scroll about half way down to get to the OS Pavement stories.

Congratulations to Jake Swanson and Owner Jeff Schankerman for Winning the 2008 PRA Junior Midget Series Dirt, Pavement, and Combined Championship. Smile

The Swanson family has a large history with motorsports. I have watched Mike Swanson at the Copperworld with the wickedly fast supermodifieds.

I think that the supers have actually run at the Orange show.
