Didn't Dale Jr. go under the yellow line a few years ago on the last lap to win at talladega or Daytona, and NASCAR said anything goes on the last lap? I guess it only applies to a select few.

you can't IMPROVE your position by going under the yellow line. nascar ruled that jr was already at a point that he had made the pass (even if he had not totally cleard the 17) when the 17 came down. as you can see jr swerved to avoid contact with matt who came clear accross the track.

I still think its stupid to allow someone to assure their victory by forcing someone down under the yellow line. If they want to have that penalty there should be equal repercussions for the guy doing the forcing. Regan had a run and Tony forced him under the line to essentially assure a win. If such happens, they should just let him race. Another reason why NASCAR is just crap today.

they DO have a forcing rule. it just seems they thought the leader had a right to protect his lead on the last lap and that smith put himself in a position to be "forced". after all, if you fake right as smith did, then try to cut back under, you pretty much know the guy in front is going to turn back down. in jr's case he was plainly next to and going by matt when matt came down.

Maybe they should make it a red line and have anyone who crosses it come to a stop before resuming. Better yet throw the yellow and have everyone pit for the 560th time.

I would've made the same complaint if Tony Stewart were on the receiving end. I'm only complaining about the rule, not the result. I think it robs the fans more than anything.

Also, does it matter if it's two tires as opposed to four? Or just fouling the yellow line period? If it is just fouling the line, then Rogue-9 you are correct, there is no unity of calls by NAPCAR.

Sean.

P.S. I don't know if unity is the right word I'm looking for.

Why don't they just put a wall where the yellow line is? Same as if they go high to pass....

The funny thing is if Regan had held his line instead of going below the line to keep from wrecking Tony, he probably takes Tony out, causes a big wreck and goes on to win. Nascar is the only series I know where you can wreck a guy on the last lap for the win and not be penalized. Tony knew he got beat by the way he was throwing his gloves on the dash after the race. Oh yeah, I'm a Tony Stewart fan by the way.

IMHO, if Tony Stewart had pulled the same move on Regan Smith, Stewart would have gotten the win. For as long as I've been a fan, 1970, NASCAR has always operated on the principle that 99% of the fans are a bunch of single digit IQ drooling morons who want to see the same four guys win ALL of the races.

i too am not making statements based on who the drivers involved were, just on the rule. and nascar has been consistant when it comes to it's calls on this. in any other situation of the same instance, nascar has ruled against the driver going under the line. remember, the dale jr deal was not the same thing as jr was plainly next to matt and going by him when matt came down. if smith would have been under and beside tony when tony came down then i would say give it to smith. nascar has though made a problem with the statement in the drivers meeting about this and left the area open for argument as to what was going to be tolerated.

just because you get bumped does not mean you can continue the pass. the rule does not say you can't go under the line. it says you can't improve your position while going under the line.

Not sure what you're trying to say. If Regan Smith holds his line when Tony cuts across his nose, Tony most likely goes around and Smith goes on to win. Also, why is Regan Smith put back to 18th instead of 2nd or at worst 3rd?
