Mason Moore scores another top 5 with F&F Racing before heading to Fall Nationals

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA – September 30, 2008…Making his second start in the Friends & Family Racing No. x1 sprinter Princeton’s Mason Moore raced to his second straight top five finish for the team this past Saturday night with the California Sprint Car Civil War Series at the Placerville Speedway.

The event at the high-banked, red-clay bullring marked the final race of the season for the Civil War 360 Series and Moore went into it looking to build some momentum towards this coming weekend’s Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals. The 17 year-old driver made his first start in the F&F Racing machine a couple weekend’s ago in Petaluma, where he finished top five in the main event and he came back this most recent Saturday to nearly duplicate the performance as he made his 11th Civil War Series start of the season.

A 30 car field was on hand for the final Civil War event of the year and Moore began the night by qualifying strong for the second time in a row with the team as he clocked the fourth fastest lap of the night aboard the Sierra Single Ply, Inventory Sales Company No. x1. A seventh place finish in his heat race however, sent Moore to the night’s B-main where he would line-up alongside four-time Civil War Series champ Andy Forsberg.

In the 12-lap contest Moore would then regroup and capture victory to transfer the Merit Logistics, Levin’s Auto Supply, Roseville Precision No. x1 into the main event. With fast qualifier Sean Becker pulling the number six pill it put Moore in the fourth row of the feature and the driver known as “Primetime” was able to avoid separate flips on the first couple starts, which allowed him to move up a couple rows and after 30 laps of racing he was able to hang on to cross the line in fifth at the checkered flag.

17th annual Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals on tap this weekend:

The Placerville finish marked Moore’s third top five result in his last three California Civil War 360 Series starts and gives him some confidence going into one of the big races of the season when the 17th annual Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals kicks off this weekend at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway. Moore this year finished third in the Feather Falls Casino weekly 410 standings at the track while driving his family’s No. 22 sprint car and also picked up two main event victories along the way, including the $3,000 to win Bill Brownell Memorial.

The Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals this weekend will award $6,000 to the winner of Saturday night’s A-main event and Moore will be in search of it as the wheelman of the Steve Tuccelli/Alan Bradway owned No. x1 sprinter. In his first two starts with the team Moore has qualified within the top five both times and finished fifth on each occasion, which is the kind of consistency that is always a critical part during the prelim nights in a point format like the one that is seen at the Fall Nationals.

During his rookie season last year Moore put together an impressive performance during Saturday’s finale at the Fall Nationals as the youngster ran the alphabet soup coming from sixth starting to win the C-main, then charging from 17th to fourth in the B-main, which gave him the final transfer into the feature. If that wasn’t enough he then proceeded to carve his way from 24th to 11th in the 40 lap main event to cap off a very successful night at an event that saw 90 drivers in competition.

The F&F Racing team also had a strong run at last year’s Fall Nationals, with driver Colby Wiesz winning the second prelim night and finishing runner-up behind Tim Kaeding in the 40 lap A-main on Saturday. The No. x1 machine also picked up a preliminary night win in 2003 at the Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals and finished fourth during the 40 lap finale in ’06.

Moore will look to continue that success this weekend as he competes in the final winged sprint car event of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway, which is expected to see an extremely talent packed field. The front gate will open at 5pm each night with adult general admission tickets costing $15 on Thursday & Friday and $20 on Saturday. All your Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals info can be found at

Glad to see the X1 team pick up a young and up coming star in our sport in that of Mason Moore and then saddened to see David Robinson a very good talent in our sport for many years and a straight forward no B.S. guy to leave the team, But what makes a great person is measured by success and to know when enough is enough and that is David Robinson to move over and let the X1 team find a stand out talent as in Mason Moore get in the seat,

Congrats to the Moore Family and to Allen & Steve and continued success
