Bud Kaeding heads to Hanford following 8th place finish at 4-Crown Nationals

By Gary Thomas

Rossburg, Ohio – September 22, 2008…Campbell’s Bud Kaeding competed in his fifth USAC Silver Crown Series race of the season this past Saturday night at the Eldora Speedway and it netted him an eighth place finish at the prestigious 4-Crown Nationals presented by Chevrolet.

The 28th “American Revolution” 4-Crown Nationals marked Kaeding’s final Silver Crown Series start of the season and he started off the event by qualifying fourth quickest in the 28 car field. The night was then capped with a 50 lap main event and the two-time Silver Crown champ hung tough to pick up an eighth place finish to put a cap on his Silver Crown season.

In his five USAC Silver Crown Series starts in ‘08 Kaeding brought home a pair of top five finishes and a trio of top tens. “You definitely have to be on top of your game in this series because you don’t always have the big car counts, but there are certainly quality drivers on hand at each race,” Kaeding said. “It also makes it a bit tough with us running without a wing very sparingly the last couple years and the rest of these guys do it all the time so they’re always really sharp.”

Kaeding will now turn his focus back to the 410 winged sprint car as he’ll head to the Kings Speedway in Hanford this weekend to compete in the Tachi Open Wheel Invitational aboard the Alviso Rock, K & N Filters, MPD Racing Products No. 29. The 28 year-old driver has had success in his career at the 3/8 mile clay oval including a pair of wins in the Pombo/Sargent Classic, as well as putting together a number of other strong runs throughout the years.

The event this weekend will also feature 360 winged sprints on the card and plans were still up in the air as of this past weekend if Kaeding would also be competing in the Werbach Motorsports No. 20 machine, in an attempt to get tuned up for the fast approaching 17th annual Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals in Chico.

The Campbell veteran is looking forward to the upcoming events as the season is slowly crawling to an end. “I’ve always loved running Hanford and the Fall Nationals is another event I’ve had success at in the past so we’re ready to tackle these races the next couple weeks,” Kaeding said. “Kings Speedway has always been one of the top tracks in California and we’re hoping the event this weekend goes well to try and give the track a boost.”

tripcrwn- that saying "When the green flag drops, the bullshit stops" has to be my favorite shirt. I had that shirt back when I was in pre school, unfortunatlly I went to a private pre school. So I had to wear a different shirt over the top, then once I was inside the school, I uncovered the first layer exposing the racing shirt. Needless to say my mother was called in........... Loved that shirt!

You know Gary, it is really sad that the folks promoting the Tachi Open failed to use a professional such as yourself to promote their big weekend of the year. It takes away from the event when they try to go cheap.
