Travis Berryhill ready to make POWRi National Midget start this Friday

By Gary Thomas

Pontoon Beach, IL – September 17, 2008…Veteran midget racer Travis Berryhill is set for his first racing action back east since relocating to Indiana, as he’ll be in competition this Friday night during a POWRi National Midget Series sanctioned event at the Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois.

For the night of racing at the Tri-City Speedway Berryhill will be behind the wheel of the Waterloo, IL based Edwards Jones Investments, Kirkpatrick Motorsports No. 401k midget owned by Ted Kirkpatrick. “I just can’t thank Ted enough for giving me a shot to drive the car on Friday night,” Berryhill said. “It’s my first opportunity at a ride out here and it’s a good midget with a strong Esslinger/Stealth combo so I’m confident we’ll be running up front on Friday.”

Berryhill will be looking to rebound following a tough outing a couple weekend’s ago at the Vermeil Classic in Calistoga. On that weekend the former American Canyon, CA resident hoped to have a good showing, but an event of tough luck, which included a crash on opening night and mechanical issues on night two, left him with results that he certainly wasn’t hoping for. “Calistoga was probably one of the worst weekends we’ve had that I can remember, but it was a fun event and we definitely hope to be back there next year,” Berryhill commented.

This Friday’s POWRi National Midget Series event will be billed as the “Prelude to the Gold Crown” and Berryhill is hoping for a good run to try and get himself noticed before the season is over. “I’m just really looking forward to Friday and definitely want to run strong to hopefully try and open the door for more opportunities back here,” he said. “I’d also like to represent all my supporters well including Red Line Oil, Ultra Shield Seats and Impact Racing Products, in addition to holding up honors for my home state of California. I've got my foot in a couple different doors and this ride will hopefully be a good start."

Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:15 pm this Friday night at the Tri-City Speedway with racing expected to get underway at 7. For more information on the O’Reilly POWRi National Midget Series visit
