Speed has the WoO but what other channels have sprint car racing on them? Doesn't the Outdoor Channel or whatever it is called now cover some non-wing stuff? Trying to determine which to go with and what packages will have channels that include sprint car racing. Thanks!

There just isn't a whole lot of sprint car racing on any channel. Speed has been carrying the Outlaws on a delayed basis of a week or two later. Not bad coverage considering. I have the big package that Dish calls their Top 250 with local channels and a DVR in two different rooms and I just set them for a particular series that I might miss the listing or might be at an unexpected time . For racing in general, ESPN 2 carries some, including NHRA, etc. There is also some coverage of different things on VS and SPIKE. I don't think Outdoor channel runs much in the way of racing anymore. Hope this helps a little.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

What's the difference between Direct and Dish? There isn't any channels that I am aware of that I don't have, including INTER from Europe.

Does Dish have Setanta yet? Indespensible for the Rugby Union fan. DirecTv has had it for years.

Do they still have the big ole satelite dish where you could pick up anything and everything?
There was a time in the mid 90's when shows from Williams Grove was taped weekly and a friend of mine would tape those shows and give them too me. Kinda boring but at least I got to see racing in PA at the time.

They call the old outdoor channel Versus or just VS. It's channel 603 on direct TV and yes they have shown a couple of USAC/CRA races this year.

You're thinking of Outdoor Life Network (OLN). They changed that to VS. Outdoor Channel is a completely different channel.

Thanks everyone for the help. OLN is the channel I THINK i was thinking of but Rogue-9 says it doesn't exist anymore. I don't think Dish gets the NHL network either which I would like to have. David, I remember that Williams Grove coverage and I used to record it on a staticy channel here in the Twin Cities. Craig Eischenhauser, is that a sprint car name? Black car? I remember he won a race on that coverage once if I am not mistaken.

Versus has Motorsports Hour, usually on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Once in a while they'll be a USAC/CRA race from Perris or Manzanita. But it's mostly a hodgepodge of anything with engines. Tractor pulls, figure 8, asphalt Late Models, etc.
The good old days on DirecTV were the 1990s. I got in 1995 and the sports channel package was great. Independent local sports channels from all over the country. I saw Williams Grove and even Silver Spring in Pennsylvania. All sorts of racing from all over the country. But then FOX bought up all of these channels to compete with ESPN, so now its the same programming on every channel with little or no local racing. One show had Gary London from NSSN doing color commentary. He looks like he should have a deep booming voice, but he sounds like Woody Allen. If had known it wasn't going to last, I would have taped a lot of it, just for the novelty of it.

If you were thinking of the channel that had a WoO deal just two years ago, that would have been The Outdoor Channel. That still exists, but I don't know of any racing on it anymore. VS has some USAC stuff, and of couse Speed has the WoO. That's about it for Dirt racing on TV. If you want to watch DIRT, the Internet is the place to look. Lots of free highlights on millsvideoproductions.com, highvistavideo.com, racewayvideo.com, and some live racing for a price on racenetwork.tv, dirtvision.com, and occasionally the USAC website has had some free live videos lately.

I used to pull in those channels on my 10 ft C-Band satellite dish system. I believe it was the New England Sports Network that replayed the Williams Grove races. I, too, recorded them when I would come across the races while channel surfing. And yeah, nearly all of the sports channels were in the clear and free until the mid-90's or so when Fox started buying out the local sports channels. Ditto on the taping idea. I bought my DirecTV system in 2000 and it has been a major disappointment with what has happened as to sprint car racing coverage compared to the "you never know what you will find" (Remember Dr. Susan Block on backhaul channels? haha) days of C-Band satellite systems in their hey day. Used to be able to get KTLA, WPIX and HBO/Cinemax with your $24 subscription package, now it all depends on what "region" you live in.

Sorry for the misread. I just figured any ablebodied man this time of the year would be interested in American Football, not to be confused with European Football, et. al. "Soccer." I don't really know why I got involved in this in the first place, I don't care if anyone elects to purchase Dish, Direct, cable, etc. But to clear up this final question concerning Dish, the NHL channel is available with Dish. Here in Knoxville it is Channel 626. Take care.
