Team 292 Inc. takes top 5 on Friday before tough Placerville event on Saturday

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – August 19, 2008…Team 292 Inc. was back at it this past weekend looking to maintain the Silver Dollar Speedway point lead with driver Andy Forsberg on Friday, in addition to competing at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday as Willie Croft came out to make his first California start since July 18.

Both events this past weekend saw day-time temperatures reach very warm levels and it caused track conditions to be less than favorable during main event time each night.

This most recent Friday marked the next to last Feather Falls Casino 410 event of the Silver Dollar Speedway season and Forsberg went into it clinging to a slim five point lead in the standings. The track started off very fast in qualifying and the Auburn driver cut a blistering lap of 11.363 to place the A & A Stepping Stone, GP Development No. 92 third fastest.

With second place in points Sean Becker setting fast time however, it cut Forsberg’s lead to just three digits going into heat race competition. Lining-up sixth in his heat “Mr. Excitement” hopped another driver’s right rear on the start and came to a stop. After going to the work area he came back out and moved up to score a fifth place finish, transferring him into the main event and bringing the point lead back up to four points heading into the main event.

Forsberg then started from the outside of the fourth row in the feature and focused on running a clean 25 laps of racing as the track had become a bottom groove surface. The driver of the Basalite Concrete, Red Line Oil No. 92 sprinter ran a smart race and was able to get up to fourth around the midway point and hang on to that position the rest of the way. With the fourth place finish, coupled with Becker running ninth, it has allowed Forsberg to put the lead back to nine points going into this Friday’s championship finale.

Team 292 Inc. then headed to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday as a two car effort once again with Willie Croft back in action at the tight, red-clay bullring. Both drivers started off well with Forsberg scoring the third fastest lap of the night in qualifying and Croft right there in seventh. Both then struggled in the heats and were forced to run the evening’s 12 lap B-main where they started on the front row.

As the track became dusty, treacherous and rubber down, the Team 292 Inc. duo kept the cars underneath them and brought home a one-two finish with Forsberg in first and Croft second aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ, LRB Manufacturing No. 29. In the main event however, both drivers unfortunately had separate issues and the feature ended with Croft in 16th and Forsberg in 18th.

Looking for Silver Dollar Speedway title:

Team 292 Inc. will look to rebound this Friday during Coca-Cola, Napa Auto Parts, Cherry St. Mini Storage Championship Night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico where Andy Forsberg will look to bring home his second track championship. “Mr. Excitement” will also be gunning for his third straight win during Coke Night and if he could do that he would keep the six-foot tall trophy that is given out each year at the event. The special piece of hardware is brought back each year, but a driver is able to keep it if they win Coke Night three consecutive years.

Going into Championship Night Forsberg maintains a nine point lead over Sean Becker in the Silver Dollar Speedway Feather Falls Casino point standings. This Friday’s event will also be the final race before the 55th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, which is coming up in a few short weeks. Team 292 Inc. driver Willie Croft is also tentatively scheduled to compete in Chico on Friday to try and get geared up for the Gold Cup.

Team 292 Inc. will also be in action at Placerville Speedway this Saturday night. More news and info on drivers Andy Forsberg and Willie Croft can be found at
