Velocity speed report

8/15/2008 watsonville

Friday August 15th found the cv fabricators team lead by chuck cypert heading to ocean speedway to try and gain some information for a future civil war show, the team also was trying to get locked into the key classic.

Myles and the maclac paints/mtl manufacturing/stud welding products/escalon body and paint sprinter started the night out hot lapping and then getting ready for qualifying.

Myles would qualify at a respectable 8th quick.

The velocity team then went to work getting ready for the 4th heat race where myles started 5th next to multiple time golden state champion brent kaeding.

The initial start myles shot in front of bk only to have bk make a veteran move in 1-2 with myles trying to follow him threw the same spot, the hole closed and myles found himself trapped behind the field.

Myles would battle back and run out of laps where he finished 5th sending him to the b-main.

Myles quickly handled the b-main traffic and finished 2 nd to transfer to the a-main.

Track conditions change rapidly with the weather cooling of from the ocean breeze and the team went to work adapting the car to the conditions.

Myles started 11th and played it smart and smooth running the low line and picking his way forward to 5th with 9 laps to go,on the restart the bottom line had gone away with the middle taking rubber which is what many year sprint car veterans ronnie day, stephan allard and craig stidham found.

The next 9 laps myles diced with these veterans and would finish 8th,which as of this writing put us one position out of being locked into the key race.

The main objective was met with wanting to gain info for the civil war show so it was a positive trip for team velocity and thank you all our sponsors for making it possible.

here is what i have for key race proceedure as posted by the track. keep in mind i am not officially offiliated with the track so this is intended as as a guide on my part. i hope it helps.

Johnny Key Classic

Aug 29, 2008

The qualifying and race format will be as follows.

Appearances

Drivers will be eligible to race after making one (1) Wright One 360 series appearance prior to Aug 29, 2008. An attempt to qualify will be considered an appearance.

Qualifying

Starting June 6, 2008 and continuing thru August 15, 2008 Drivers will pre-qualify for the Johnny Key Classic. This will be accomplished by taking finishing positions 1, 2, and 3{DRIVERS} in the A-main and "locking" them into a starting spot for the Johnny Key Classic race. After the first night of pre-qualifying the top three (3) DRIVERS in the A-main NOT already pre-qualified will be taken and so on until the final night of pre-qualifying. After August 15, 2008 the top two (2) DRIVERS in Wright One 360 Series points that have NOT secured a starting spot in the Key race will be included in the Key race line up. On the night of Aug 29, 2008 any Driver with at least one (1) prior Wright One 360 appearance can attempt to make the Key race by taking time trials and finishing in the top ten (10) positions of the B-main. If needed a C-main will also be ran on that night with cars transferring to the B-main. The number of cars transferring from the C-main will be determined as necessary.

Race night format

Drivers not "locked" into Key race will hot lap and take two (2) timed qualifying laps. The fastest eighteen (18) qualifiers will line "straight up" with the fastest car on the pole for the B-main. The B-main will be 12 laps. The top ten (10) cars in the B-main will line up according to their qualifying spot behind Drivers already pre-qualified in the Key race. Drivers that have pre-qualified will be allowed an opportunity to hot lap during the night before the Key race. There will be two (2) six (6) lap dashes consisting of the fourteen (14) Drivers that have pre qualified, seven cars in each dash. The starting order of the dashes will be determined by pill draw. Dash # 1 will be drivers 1thru 7 in Wright One 360 points that are pre-qualified. Dash # 2 will be 8 thru 14 in Wright One 360 points that are pre-qualified. The finishing order of the first dash will determine 1-7 starting spots for the Key. The finishing order of the second dash will determine the 8-14 starting spots for the Key. The B-main cars will follow in the line up as stated previously.

Johnny Key Race Laps

The Key race will consist of a total of fifty (50) laps. There will be two (2) twenty-five (25) lap segments. At the conclusion of the first segment the cars will be stopped on the front straight in front of the grandstands. There will be a 12-15 minute intermission in which cars can refuel, change tires, and make whatever adjustments the crews can do on the front straight before teams are signaled to leave the track and cars are pushed off. Cars will be lined up to resume the race in the order in which they finished the first segment.

To participating teams

Please work with us to make this a great event. We know everyone has there own opinion of how things should be done. Unfortunately we can never make everyone happy. So please keep that in mind. Minor adjustment may be made to this as deemed necessary by the track.
