Myers Brothers Racing looks to finish off final couple point races on good note

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – August 18, 2008…After a rough last couple of weeks the Myers Brothers Racing Team will look to rebound this Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway during Coca-Cola, “Fan Appreciation Night” at the races.

The upcoming Friday night will be the final Feather Falls Casino weekly event of the season and will crown champions in the winged sprint, dirt modified and street stock division, but the wingless title will be decided on Wednesday September 3 during the “Gold Cup Invitational.”

This past Friday once again saw the luck run dry for Myers Brothers Racing as both Cody and Mason suffered dnf’s, on what was a very tough event that saw temps reach near 108 degrees during the day in the Chico area.

After getting upside down the previous Saturday in Placerville, Mason was forced to bring out the back up car and unfortunately the night didn’t go as planned as mechanical issues caused him to make just one lap in the main event, before pulling off and not risking damage under the hood.

Cody came into the night sitting just behind Mason in the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless standings and began the evening by bringing home a third place finish in his heat race aboard the Cal West Concrete, Aces Heavy Transport, Performance Supply No. 9.

He then started from the fourth position in the main event and by that time the track surface had gone away due to the extreme heat. Cody focused on hitting his marks on the bottom of the speedway and was doing that until the fifth circuit, when another came down on him in turn one, causing him to get upside down and putting an end to the feature.

It was a rough way to end the night, but the team is remaining upbeat and hoping to change up the fortune during the final pair of point shows at the Silver Dollar Speedway. “All year long it just seems like the luck hasn’t been there for us,” said team owner Blane Myers. “We’ve been working our tails off and have been putting in the effort so it’s a little discouraging the way the year has gone, but coming into it we had the goal of making every point show and we’re two races away from doing that,” he concluded.

Going into this Friday’s next to last wingless sprint car event in the Hunt Magnetos/John Padjen Motorsports season, the Myers Brothers Racing Team continue to sit third and fourth in the standings. It has become a close battle however, as Mason leads Cody by just five digits in the battle for third. Friday’s event will be billed as “Fan Appreciation Night” and the main grandstands will be just $5 to get in.
