Jeff and his family would enjoy a free email card at the above link.

I visited his room today and his Mom says that the email cards mean a lot. the Hospital prints them all out and brings them to his room right away.

Do the right thing and send a card.

^Thanks

Duane

Did it. BTW - select Iowa Methodist Medical Center from the drop-down list.

From Steve King on the Hoseheads website.

Update Monday morning 8.18.08

Great news to report! Jeff's day yesterday showed small steps toward improvement as more passive physical therapy was done. Then, at 4 am this morning he woke up, opened his eyes and said he would like to sit in the chair. Jeff's parents were with him and were happy to oblige! Shortly there after he was eating ice chips and drinking a little Coke and just a little bit ago he was cleared to eat a real meal (Jeff removed the feeding tube himself)! The fact that he woke up and is now talking is fantastic. The doctors will assess his progress and we hope to have even more good news to share this evening. Thank you to everyone for your prayers. Please continue to keep Jeff and his family in your prayers. Some of family and the friends that were in Des Moines had to returned home. this past weekend. Jeff parents are remaining at his side 24/7.

We will provide updates each evening here. The updates will be provided by Jeff's family so that you know you are getting accurate information regarding his condition.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! $17,000 needed for an air ambulance.

Each day Jeff is progressing a little bit more. Today (8.19.08) the doctors sat down with Jeff's parents to discuss what the next steps will be once Jeff is stronger and stable. The next step would be to move him to a hospital that has a unit specialized in head trauma injuries. An outstanding hospital in Baltimore was contacted and has agreed to accept Jeff when he is ready to be moved. This would get Jeff about 45 minutes from home!

The doctors said that due to Jeff's injury he will need to be transported via an air ambulance; he can not be transported by private plane or by car. This expense will not be covered by insurance and is estimated to cost the Shepard's $17,000.

If you can help, please donate by clicking here or send a check to:

Steve King Foundation
24583 NW 208 Rd
Jetmore, KS 67854
Please put "Jeff Shepard Air Ambulance Fund" in the memo line to ensure properly processing of your contribution. Thank you.
