Andy Gregg charges to 7th at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – August 18, 2008… Despite dealing with tough racing conditions on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway, Placerville’s Andy Gregg was able to put on a charge for the second straight week and scored a seventh place finish during the penultimate Feather Falls Casino 410 point race of the season.
Day time temperatures over 105 degrees welcomed competitors to the Silver Dollar Speedway during this most recent Friday night point show and made for a challenging event for all in attendance. Gregg went into the night following an eighth place finish the previous week and looked to improve upon that as he continues to get geared up for the Gold Cup Race of Champions.
A 26 car field was on hand for the next to last weekly point event at Silver Dollar and Gregg kicked it off by timing in 16th quickest with a lap of 11.854 aboard the Myers & Sons Drywall, Dale Mille Plumbing, BR Motorsports No. 16x.
He then lined-up on the front row of his heat race and led the field until looping the car in turn four at the halfway mark. Luckily for the Placerville racer he was able to straighten the car back out and continue on to bring home a fifth place finish, which transferred him into the main event where he started from the inside of the eighth row.
By main event time the warm weather had taken its toll on the racing surface as the top had slicked off and the bottom groove had become the place to be. Lining-up 15th in the talent laden 25 lap feature, Gregg was able to pick his spots wisely and put on a methodical charge to get up to seventh by the checkered flag.
With the strong field of cars in action Gregg was happy with the finish in the main event. “We’ll take a seventh as the track was real tough in the feature tonight,” he commented. “There was a great field of drivers tonight and if we can get our qualifying back down to where we know we can be, I think we’ll have a good shot to put this thing up front next Friday and then have a good showing at the Gold Cup in a few weeks,” Gregg concluded.
The event at the Silver Dollar Speedway this coming Friday will put an the end to the Feather Falls Casino 410 point season and is the annual championship night sponsored by Coca-Cola, Napa Auto Parts & Cherry St. Mini Storage. Another strong field of drivers is expected to be on hand to take part in the evening’s action, in what should also be a packed house during “Fan Appreciation Night” at the races.
