From a viewer Ken in Rowlett, TX from the e-mail. Some of you KC area viewers may know about this car.

Do you happen to know who built the car in photo #1367? http://www.racingfromthepast.com/jesuszone/lap3index4.html

It shows Gene Gennetten. I have a car I'm restoring that looks just like it. Or do you know anyone who might have any more photos of the car? I don't know any history of the car at all. Thanks for any help.....

I knew Gene. (Are you aware he drown in The Lake of The Ozarks last year). My cars raced with him in 1964 through 70. He raced car #85 in the early 60 s but went to # 3 in late 60 s. The #85 was owned by someone else & the #3 cars were his. He was also one of the first to make the injector cover box part of the hood. I would guess this car to be late 60 s or early 70 s. The #3 is on the nose but I never saw it run without the tail like this photo. He probably built the car himself. He was building enclosed trailers about that time & did a very nice job on them. After this picture, he started racing midgets & built his own cars. Was very sucessfull at that. I expect Curt Grogan to respond to this. If he does not, go to one of the messages that has CG5KC as the sender & send him an email. He has a lot of pictures & one of the most knowledgable of the period in racing.

Good Luck, Luther Brewer

The 08 on this car was probably a borrowed tail from (slips my mind on the name right now). I was aware of Gene drowning last summer. I had it on the Home Page. Apparently he built boat docks etc. but didn't know how to swim.

I'll bet you Curt will know. There is a couple of others that frequent the site too.

Harry Graves used the # 8 on a Ford powered super painted white in the mid/late 60 s. He was from KC.

That car was one of Gene's own design.Probably 1979 it was a ultra fly weight car one of the lightest cars in that time frame anywhere. That was his last sprint car built for himself. He ran it without tail over the tank and the # 08 was a one race deal.

I feel real silly, I knew it didn't have a tail on it.

Hi

My name is Nina Gennetten and that was my late husbands sprint car. He did build it his self, and also drove it. My two sons Steve and Mike can tell you almost any thing you need to know about that car. I will give this to Steve and he can get a hold of you. I do know it was built in the late 70's. He also built and drove midgets, in the 80's. That car was a dark green.
