Mason Moore leads all 25 laps for second career 410 sprint car win
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – August 17, 2008…During the main event on August 8 at the Silver Dollar Speedway young Mason Moore led for nearly half of the race before getting passed for the lead by veteran Sean Becker. Moore then came back this most recent Friday on Jessee Heating & Air/ Four Season’s Roofing Night to show that he wasn’t going to let it happen again.
After getting the pole position for the feature the Princeton racer drove a mistake free race to lead every lap of the main event and pick up his second career 410 winged sprint car victory aboard the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services, NOS Energy Drink No. 22. “I have to thank my crew and family for giving me a great car tonight and it feels awesome to be able to come out here and pick up our second win,” Moore said.
Coming into the next to last point event of the Silver Dollar Speedway season Moore sat third in the track standings and was looking to build some momentum for the upcoming Gold Cup Race of Champions. The driver known as “Primetime” came out first in the qualifying order and his fastest lap of 11.697 was good enough for 11th quick, on a night that saw Sean Becker break the all-time track record with a blistering lap of 11.203.
A fourth place finish in the heat race transferred him into the main event and when the number eight pill was drawn for the inversion, Moore found himself starting on the pole. The 17 year-old jumped into the lead on the start and it was apparent early on that the bottom side of the track was the place to be as a very hot day had taken its toll on the surface. Moore hit his marks each and every lap as he kept Australian traveler Robbie Farr at bay during the early stages, but soon had to deal with traffic around the midway point.
With the track being a bottom groove surface it was going to make for a tricky time getting through traffic, but thankfully for Moore a caution appeared just after traffic came into play. With an open track to his advantage, nobody had anything for the Platinum Powder Coating, Withrow’s Motorsports No. 22 sprinter and Moore drove away from the field to easily cross under the checkered flag to tally his second career win at Silver Dollar Speedway.
The victory also came on a night that saw one of the most talent filled weekly events in recent memory at the Chico based track and the drivers finishing in the top five behind Moore included Robbie Farr, Tyler Walker, Andy Forsberg and Danny Lasoski. “I knew all those guys were behind me, but just kept trying to focus on running my own race because I knew if I hit my marks we’d have a good shot at winning with the way the track was,” Moore said to Troy Hennig in victory lane.
Moore and the 22 team then made the tow to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday where the 17 year-old timed in 10th fastest and brought home a sixth place finish in the main event aboard the Mike Clarke prepped machine.
Next up for Moore will be Coca-Cola Championship Night this coming Friday, which will put a cap on the 2008 Silver Dollar Speedway, Feather Falls Casino Winged Sprint Car point season. Last year “Primetime” finished fourth on championship night and this season will look to put the 22 sprinter in victory lane and continue the momentum from the past couple weeks.
