Mason Moore scores runner-up finish in third to last Chico point race

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – August 10, 2008…Rebounding from a 13th place run the previous week at Silver Dollar Speedway, Princeton’s Mason Moore returned to the track on Friday night and led laps in the feature before finishing runner-up to Nor Cal sprint car star Sean Becker.

Going into the third to last 410 point race of the Silver Dollar Speedway season Moore continued to rank third in the track standings and hoped to get back near the front of the field as the weekly season nears its conclusion.

The 17 year-old began the night by timing in eighth fastest and when the number eight pill was drawn for the A-main inversion it put the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services No. 22 sprinter on the front row. When the green flag was unveiled the driver known as “Primetime” jumped out in front and led the 20 car field into turns one and two.

The track surface was prepared very well on this night and made for a racy 25 laps of action on the quarter-mile bullring. Early on Moore had to deal with second plane runner Kevin Sharrah and with traffic coming into play quickly, the youngster had his hands full, but was able to do a great job and pick his spots wisely to maintain the lead.

A caution on lap eight took Moore out of the traffic and gave him a clear track to work with, but soon after began to deal with a fast moving Korey Lovell. Moore continued to hit his marks as the race was nearing the midway point and held off the relentless Lovell, but it all became a moot point when Sean Becker made a wild move off turn four to get by both drivers for the lead.

After this Moore wasn't able to catch Becker, but did pull away from Lovell to comfortably maintain the second spot over the remaining laps and at the checkered flag brought home a runner finish aboard the NOS Energy Drink, Platinum Powder Coating, Napa Auto Parts No. 22. It marked his fourth top five finish of the Silver Dollar Speedway season and was a solid run finishing behind the former King of California and current Civil War Series point leader.

The night as a whole was a big confidence booster for Moore and the team following the past month, which had been filled with rough luck and various motor issues. “It was a good run for us tonight and I thought we had a shot to get our second win, but Sean was real fast tonight,” Moore said. “Although we would have liked to end up in victory lane we’ll take a second tonight and try to get one next week.”

This Friday night will be the penultimate 410 point race of the Silver Dollar Speedway season and will feature an evening of racing sponsored by Jessee Heating & Air. “Primetime” sits comfortably in the third spot in the track standings and will look to pick up that second win of the season on Friday.
