Idk if its just me but every year that i have went to the nationals i've sat by some dumb "fan" that comes out of the wood works and knows nothing about sprint car racing but act like they know every thing...for instance one of the stupidest things i heard this year is that they set the saturday night line by a pill draw...

So you have any story like that or anything please let me know...

Not from Knoxville but a similar story....

We went to a sprint car race when I-70 in MO was dirt in the 80's. Pit's in the infield, cars in plain view of the grandstands.

I am 9 yrs old at the time and was sitting beside some foxy 20 something girl. She asks her boyfriend "why do those cars have such a small tire on one side?"

His answer....So the car fits on the trailer!!!

I then decided to educate this woman about stagger and what it does for a sprint car. For the rest of the night she asked a 9 year old any questions she had and ignored her boyfriend. He didn't act happy but eventually he got enough beer in him that he was happy to be there.

I sat behind a guy that knew nothing and admitted he knew nothing, new fan and all. That was fine. But then he asked an "expert" next to him about what was going on Friday night. The guy proceeded to talk at length about how the A Main scramble cars weren't racing tonight, they were just "practicing" and that the Non-Qualifers races were to set up the rest of the A main the next night. I totally understand not getting the nuances of the Nationals point system, but that guy was out to lunch.

Maybe instead of making fun of this new comer, you could have told him/her to look at Knoxville web site and it will explain all the rules and racing format, or tell him to check out hoseheads.com. The more knowledge our fan base the better we are. Don't laugh at the new kid. Sean

this post is really hittin the nail on the head, for some of us "occassional fans" ( I usually am closer to the push truck if you know what I mean) the stuff you hear in the stands from one idiot to a newcomer is unbearable to ignore ? this is tuff to listen to, I hate prospective "New fans" being misinformed and just along for the "Hillbilly circus" we call sprint races , it sux, I wish I were better a butting into a conversation someone shed some light, on how to polightly correct a idiot!

New fans? Nah, sprint car racing doesn't need 'em, right? (OK, sarcasm now OFF)

I'll bet some of you geniuses were really smart the first time that you went to a sprint car event.....

This is the best you got to call a race fan 'stupid' on? A pill draw issue? Are you kidding me? Ever think you should be appreciative that they are in attendance to SUPPORT sprint car racing? Look who's calling who stupid! Sheesh

This isn't the best i have, he complained that speed was filming it, he didnt know kasey kahne had a car...he thought shane stewart was related to tony stewart....the list goes on and on.... and this isn't the first time I have heard stupid comments like this at the nationals, and this only seems to happen durring the nationals.

I also don't have a problem with new fans who ask questions and don't know any thing, thats fine its when your are acting like you know a lot about sprint car racing when you in fact no nothing. He was acting like he was an expert and kept telling his entire group of new comers the wrong info...

Honestly though, how dumb can you be to say that they line up the saturday night show by a pill draw...

Another stupid fan I've heard happens to be my uncle, he went with some of his friends and told them sprint cars ran on magnets, so those are the stupid people i hate at the races!

Do you think maybe your friend needed to get his ears checked and your "stupid" uncle said magneto and not magnet or don't YOU don't know what a magneto is? Do you just like to put people down, is it a hobby? He didn't know Kasey had a car,WOW! Did you know JJ Yeley has a sprinter with a number and a driver? I'll bet not, smart guy...LOL

We need to weed out these uninformed fans. Perhaps general knowledge quiz's on sprint cars and their race formats should be given prior to admission. I'm sure, with some effort, we can get the crowd of 30 thousand that Knoxville draws down a respectable 4 or 5 thousand fans that have a clue.

LOL Jeff! Maybe I could get a better parking spot too wink

My definition of a "stupid" race fan (dirt track fan to be precise)..............

One that stays home from their local track to watch NASCAR on TV while slurping their 12 paks and chomping on pork rinds. Then they wonder why on earth their local track struggles to make ends meet!

I do believe that there are dumb "know-it alls" out there...believe me, Ive sat beside some of them too. They try to explain stuff to people who dont know alot about sprint car racing and you just sit back and laugh at them because they think they know all there is about the sport when they dont have a clue. But to just make fun of people who dont know or havent been to a lot of races like say the avid racing fan is just not right!! These people will more than likely start attending more and more races just like we did when we were younger. My first dirt track race was a late model race at Ft. Smith, Arkansas when I was about 3 years old....I dont even know if the track is open now or not. But I do know this....there is no telling how much $$$ I have spent to attend dirt track races, not just sprint car races, in my life. But I wouldnt have spent the money on anthing better. It is true that once you get it in your blood, you are hooked for life. I hope there were alot of youngsters and newly acquainted sprint car enthusiasts that got it in their blood this weekend at the Nationals!

i usually have to butt in and "help" them. and it seems like no matter where you go they are there. i don't know how many races i have been to that Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne have driven at lol

i realized a week or 2 ago it sucks to be at something you don't understand. my dad begged me to check out drag racing. i was lost. i thought they all just left the line at the same time and raced. but they didn't . some were half way down the track. i was lost and bored. so my point is if SOMEONE can educate these people to where they have a clue as to what is going on they might actually have fun. that is why the WOO has changed so much in the last 2 years. trying to make it as easy for new people as possible. like the "last chance showdown" instead of the B-Main. top 2 cars go to the dash etc. rookies probably show up expecting cars going in circles and are lost during the heats alone much less the Dash etc.

OK, I've given this some serious thought (yeah right) and I've came to the conclusion that people like the ones being discussed on this thread don't bother me nearly as much as the people that sit in the stands and bitch and moan about everything. They don't like this, they don't like that, you know the type. I've asked some of those guys what they were doing there if it was so bad, more than once..I'm also sorry to say I've known some of those guys for many many years and they keep coming back. I guess it makes some people happy to be unhappy..Huh?

...I must be one of those "stupid fans"...I would have went to Tennessee if I'd have known Casey Cain was racing a sprint cup race in Knoxville this past weekend...
