They said he had an eight year old block and he starts on the back of the A. He is racing out of a 24ft enclosed and he said his daughter and son in law are the only ones there helping him. He was hoping for some new tires but did'nt have any. At least that is what he said on TV.

I was tickled to see Gary make the A, but I have to believe if he thought he stood a chance of going anywhere, he would have spent some of Emmett's money on a set of tires. There WAS a tire truck there, wasn't there? He's a money racer with a better-than-average grip on reality, and if there wasn't a huge mess in the first few laps, he knew he'd gone about as far as that car would take him, so run a few laps, put it on the trailer and show a profit for the week, which is a rare and wonderful thing. I predicted he would do that in the first place. If he starts somewhere near the front, he would go ahead and compete as long as he was competitive. But starting near the back, I know he knew he didn't have a chance so make a couple of laps, not tear anything up and bring home a little extra money.

I needed Gary around when I was a 20 year old stupid kid and bought a cracked block off of Stan Constant, the one armed rip off artist.

Did Stan offer to sell you the chemistry set that went with the block? Let's just say Stan had more than one way to introduce more oxygen into the engine...sometimes through the cylinder heads, sometimes through the oil pan. wink

Yes, most definitely tire trucks were present. Goodyear and Hoosier and neither sold out. Curiously, Hoosier had a sign up that indicated they were having problems getting paid. Goodyear seemed to have the utmost confidence that their patrons would pay.

I wish I had known Gary didn't have anymore help than that. My son and I would have loved to have chipped in and scraped mud (not that there was that much to scrape.)

Pictures to come.
