BANDITS HIT SANTA MARIA AUGUST 9TH
The Bandit Series hits Santa Maria Speedway Saturday August 9th on the home stretch for the 2008 championship season. With four races remaining at Santa Maria , three at Kings and one at Ventura, the Bandit tour is hitting the last part of a fantastic year.
Peter Murphy has led the Bandit points since the first checkered flag fell at the Bakersfield opener. He has won eight of sixteen main events including last week-ends Pombo Classic at Kings Speedway. The famed black 21 has a near insurmountable lead at this late stage of the racing season. Murphy and his merry Tarlton band will be out to take another big check home to Clovis.
The posse is out to capture the popular black hat. Infamous mud slinging cousins Fast Albert Pombo and Davey Pombo jr. are among the hungriest and nastiest dudes to try to claim the prize money. Fast Albert is second to Murphy in the point standings and is ready to claim his first 2008 win. Albert has been driving the black double one sprinter lately of Visalia's Dennis McCowen. "Big Daddy" Davey Pombo is one of the winningest and most deadly quick Bandito's of all time. Davey is a multiple champion and has won at seemingly every track the Bandito's race. Driving for John Iturriria since June, Davey has put the 27 car on the podium but will be shooting for victory lane Saturday night.
The hottest of all Bandito's is the wild and wooley Whiplash Dan Faria of Tipton way with two wins, two seconds and one fourth place finish in the last five meets. Faria has had several spectacular runs and some legendary duals with the likes of Murphy lately. Rusty "Kid" Carlile is another hot Bandit with a flare for the spectacular and taste for the first place loot. The new green 51 is hard to miss as it blazes around the oval and Carlile's famous ear-to-ear grin as he takes the prize like he did a couple of races back.
Justyne Hamblin's pleasant smile and winning personality is just a front for the heart of a Bandito beats for the podium and hoisting the trophy as this sophomore star looks for her first 2008 win! She is due and has been on the verge of victory all season.
Richard and Jace VanderWeerd are two rookies with the killer instinct and tact of a veterano. Richard already has scored a most precious win and has had a few podiums as of lately and is thirsting for another sip of Champagne (OK, Coca-Cola- he is only 17) to back up his earlier Santa Maria trip to victory lane. Jace has been nearly as fast and has a few podiums to boast of (but he's pretty humble) while he is ready to claim his right to hoist the trophy!
With Ventura dark again, who will come in and take off with the Bandito's loot? Could it be the Outlaw Brandon Thomson? Will Greg Taylor, Derek Buckley or any other southern California slinger show his face and try to steal the show? With USAC not racing, will Bandito Champion Danny Sheridan ride into town with the Kittle Brothers flying circus and internationally famous BBQ crew?
It has all the fixins of a rootin', toot'n hootin' and a hollerin' good ol' time at Dave Swindell's OK Corral! Come one, come all and visit Greg Rowen and his famously popular and unique mud proof beer cups. He'll pour your choice of cold beverage in the only cups that promise not to git any mud tossed in the open cup from the spinnin' tars of a sprinter! The catch??? No catch, the beverages are so good and so cold that it gets drank faster than the mud can fly into the cup- so the legend goes!
So for a good time call Joann or Dave at 805-202-1492 for ticket information and d'rections to the West's Best Short Track, Santa Maria Speedway. Bring your friends and family and a stranger or two for the Peter the Pretty Good August Special- two tickets for the price of four and world class Bandit Sprint Car entertainment worth 1000 times the price! Ok, it's really two tickets for the price of two tickets but the entertainment is still worth 1000 times the price in my well reasoned and brilliant opinion!
See you all there and say hello to a one-eyed fat man sometime!
