Mason Moore sits 3rd in Silver Dollar Speedway points with three races remaining

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – August 4, 2008…As the Silver Dollar Speedway weekly season nears its end Princeton’s Mason Moore will look to rebound this weekend following a 13th place finish this past Friday at the quarter-mile clay oval. The youngster continues to rank third in the track standings, in what is his second year behind the wheel of a sprint car.

After taking the previous week off, Moore returned to action during this most recent weekend to kick off the final month of regular weekly action at Silver Dollar Speedway. The month of August was started off with the 13th point race for the 410 division at the Chico track and was a night sponsored by Care Free Pools.

Following a few weeks of being plagued with motor problems Moore and the team hoped to rid them this past weekend and began the final month of racing in Chico by timing in 11th fastest and picking up a fourth place finish in the opening heat race. It transferred the Rolling Hills Casino, Moore Insurance Services No. 22 into the main event where the 17 year-old started from the eighth position.

As the field came to the green flag for the feature it unfortunately saw the driver known as “Primetime” become a spin victim in turn one, forcing him to restart from the rear of the 21 car field. Coming from the back of the pack Moore was able to slice his way forward and get back up to 13th by the end of the 25 lap contest.

After running Friday Moore was then able to get a 360 power-plant to compete at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday during the 10th race of the California Civil War Series season. The Princeton driver started off the night well by timing in fifth fastest out of 43 cars aboard the NOS Energy Drink, Selover’s Paint & Body No. 22. A fifth place finish in the opening heat race then put Moore into the B-main where he would eventually finish in the fifth spot to transfer into the main event.

Starting from the very last row in the 30 lap feature Moore battled it out on the tight bullring to bring home a 15th place finish at the checkered flag. By competing in Placerville and making the A-main he virtually solidified a spot in the top 32 of Civil War points, which makes him eligible to compete in the Wednesday night invitational race that kicks off the Gold Cup Race of Champions week on September 3.

This Friday night will find Moore and the team in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway for the third to last point race in the Feather Falls Casino weekly season. The 17 year-old will look to rebound this week as well as get geared up for the Gold Cup, which is quickly approaching and is just a month away at the action packed quarter-mile. The front gate will open at 6pm this Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway with adult tickets costing just $11, juniors $9 and children $5.
