I have to say that of all the races I have been to in my life I have never been to a USAC non wing race. I am really looking forward to going to Calistoga to see what non winged racers can do at Calistoga. I like Calistoga, but I wish there was more passing so I am hoping that without the wing there will be more passing. I also agree that our winged racers in CA do pretty well without the wing, but I haven't heard of non winged racers putting the wing on and doing well. I guess it is an eaiser transition from wing to non wing than vice versa?

Some people are born to race and are just really good at anything they get into! After seeing what Kyle Larson did this weekend at Placerville I can definitely add him to the list of very talented drivers even though he is soo young and hasn't been in a sprint car very long!

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

Man your sounding really clueless. Go look at hoseheads live and see how TK is doing back at OSKY. He is in the 7th starting spot ahead of your non wing heros. He started 8th in his heat race and finished 4th! Then in the qualifier race he went from 4th starting spot to 2nd! He finished ahead of Bret Mellenberndt, Brady Short, Brady Bacon, Shane Cottle, Casey Shuman. If you call that struggling you cant even buy a clue! TK is the man in a wing or non wing and at least he has the balls to race both unlike the "purest primadonnas" or traditionalists as you call them. I actually like all types of sprint car racing but you are making non wing fans look pretty damn foolish. -- Oh yeah and one more thing, TK happened to finish 3rd last night against some stout competition and he started the main in 9th place! Good God man help yourself!

Let me say this one more time for you Johnny Come Latelys: Tim Kaeding is one of the very best sprint car drivers in the country. Were you able to read that! In the field that started the OSKY main event this evening there were 6 California racers and 3 Arizona racers. All except TK departed the Golden State or Arizona for racing with USAC in the Midwest. One is Casey Shuman, son of the famous Ron Shuman. They all left to gain exposure with USAC or other racing organizations. Its a fact. The top eight finshers were D. Darland, Kevin Swindell, Cole Whitt, Jerry Coons, Hunter Schuerenberg, Shane Cottle, G. Taylor and TK. You would have to admit that TK had a bad night based on his finish. My comment was that he was struggling based on some posts following the race on the IOW board. As for tonight, its a new car for him, he might of been off his game, who knows. Hey it has happened to A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Pancho Carter and the rest of the great ones. Don't get your panty hose all twisted up in a knot over one little observation! In the future you should try reading the entire thread before firing away like some young kid. I look forward to your next post when you again raise your flag of fury over some other driver, who you think I may have slighted. Geez, where did you come from?

You outta reread your own posts degrading the winged guys and then come back and talk. see: your post about golden state challenge not being competitive. I would rank it up with the best in the country and the racers prove that every year at the Gold Cup.
Cheers!

Got to love someone telling someone they sound like a "young kid" when the only naive one on here happens to be you. I for a fact have met this individual at the races a couple of times and he is NO KID. He's been around racing for a very LONG TIME and happens to watch racing at many different tracks across the country. My point being is that you shouldn't't spout of remarks for which you have no real assessment of(regarding individual posters). Oh by the way the only one feeling slighted on here happens to be you. We should all be grateful that their is a driver like TK who has the balls to race both forms of great racing. Also he's a question for you............Why is it that Tony Stewart owns a 2 car WoO team as well as Kasey Kahne if they didn't think their drivers would get the exposure they needed or wanted?? Just a thought for you to ponder i suppose. I for one am getting ready for the Calistoga race and then right on up to the Gold Cup for 4 day's of great racing as well. And at Calistoga i will be cheering on TK and Danny Sheridan.

Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!

As one of our former Presidents said, "there you go again". Go back and read the post again. I included the USAC/CRA series as well as GSC in my reference to the Oval Nationals and the Gold Cup. How could you possibly compare the regular series' fields of both the CRA and GSC with the quality of drivers that show up for both of these "big money" events. There is no slight on my part to either of the series' regular line-ups, its just a fact. The Gold Cup and the Oval Nationals. I have to be very careful in responding to you because I believe you have a reading disability. I did not degrade the GSC. Read it again. I have all the respect in the world for the sprint car drivers of the GSC.

Both Kahne and Stewart also field teams with the USAC National series, as well as J.J. Yeley and Leffler. Ok, I pondered so your point is? I am sure the poster you refer to is a fine gentleman, its just his style that seems to bother me. I will take your word for it. BTW, I stand by my previous post to him, As far as TK goes I am also very grateful that he represents our state so well. I have nothing but admiration for him having watched his grandfather race at San Jose. As far as the Gold Cup, I was there in West Sacramento when Jan Opperman made his first visit. Opperman was a California boy but became the original outlaw and traveled the country. I was there when John and Robbie Padjen began their great careers as promoters. You should go back and read my posts in this thread. Your another Johnny Come Lately.

"Your another Johnny Come Lately" There you go again with the insecurities remarks. Why is it you want everyone to go back and read your post again. Do you want everyone to stand up clap for what you supposedly professed on here. I know what you wrote and don't need to read that diatribe again. I don't need to have 500 and something post to make me a DIEHARD race fan that goes to many races from here to Indiana. I should be at the Nationals right now, but have to attend a wedding this Friday so I had to pick and choose my battles, but oh well I have Calistoga, Gold Cup, WoO races at Watsonville and Tulare, Bandit Grand Slam at Santa Maria, Trophy Cup and possibly the Oval Nationals to still attend this year. Hey maybe i'll run into you at Calistoga and salute you with a beer since i will be camping there. Have a nice day and see ya at Calistoga.

So apparently unless you were there when they invented the sprint car your opinion is not worthy. Well here goes anyway. I have been to races all over the country, both winged and non-winged.

The one thing I can say without a doubt with the tracks I have seen both at is that the cars without the wing go slower. It is not to hard to postulate that anyone that drives primarily with a wing should be able to take the wing off and perform as well or better than they do with the wing and perhaps better than most of the drivers that never put the wing on in the first place.

Take a look at Jayme Barnes. He hauls in on an open trailer with one tire/wheel hanging in the rack and walked away with USAC/CRA money the last time they were at Skagit.

Look at Brad Sweet. He has won plenty without the wing. And he is still winning with it.

I am sure there are other examples that I can not think of at the moment. Anyway Tripcrwn I am sure part of the reason you are getting read the act on this board is because of the location. This conversation would likely be the exact opposite on the CRA board.

sidebar - I consider them all sprint cars. The cars with wings are simply an evolution. So are roll bars and seat belts. Nerf bars and power steering. Soft compound tires. on and on and on. I like watching racing on dirt and prefer "sprint cars". You can call it traditional, barn door or whatever else you want but it doesn't change what they are.

When was the last time a primarily non-wing driver put on a wing and won a premier winged show? The biggest non-wing show of the last 10 or 15 years was the Mopar Million at Eldora and that was won by a winged driver, Jac Haudenschild, and second place went to a driver who, according to the Open Wheel Times driver search, had never made a non-winged sprint start before and hasn't made one since, Stevie Smith. The top CRA/SCRA drivers of the 1990s and early 2000s had all run wings for a good stretch of time before dominating the non-wing sprints: McSpadden, Griffin, Boat, Shuman and Gardner. I'll put money on a winged driver winning at least 1 night of the upcoming USAC/CRA race at Calistoga, whether it be a Kaeding, Statler, Forsberg, York or someone else.

Was relaxing today and recalled this thread.

Good call HDsmoke20!

No matter how much people can bicker at each other online, its still all good... we are spint car fans first and foremost. Anyone who is a fan of sprint car racing is fine by me no matter where we stand on any other issue.
Cheers!

Here's the latest from TK's website:

The insider 9-13-08…To start off I would like to apologize for no information coming from the website. The truth of the mater is that the Gold Cup was not so exciting for our camp. A bad qualifying round pretty much put the team in the hole and never recovered. TK ran the C on Sat night and blew a tire after running over another car coming off of 3 when that car stopped in TK’S high line. The news during that weekend came down that Tim will now become the primary driver Roth Motorsports. Because of the change the team has taken a couple of weeks off and will resume racing in the primary team trailer for Dennis and Teresa Roth. Not sure right now who stayed or who is no longer on the team. With the focus on just one team and the many resources this team has I am sure they will find the speed the car needs for TK to do his thing. The team will run the Cotton Classic on the 26th and 27th of Sept. from there they will attend the Fall Nationals and the Trophy Cup. Not sure of any travel plans as of right now…I have another apology to anyone trying to get a shirt from this website. The insiders inside T-Lady has been out of commission with Knee reconstruction Surgery that has slowed delivery down from our slow to slower. I promise anyone that has an order pending we will get them out just as soon as she resumes the shipping. The new shirt will be on the site once she is back in action. More news to come as it unfolds….
