Andy Forsberg sets fast time and runs 7th in feature at Petaluma

By Gary Thomas

Petaluma, CA – July 29, 2008…Auburn’s Andy Forsberg was the lone ranger for Team 292 Inc. this past weekend and capped it off by driving to a seventh place finish with the California Civil War Series on Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway.

Forsberg and the A & A Stepping Stone No. 92 team began the weekend by competing with the Golden State Challenge Series on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway. “Mr. Excitement” looked be on way to a great night as he qualified third fastest in the 39 car field and brought home third place finishes in both his heat race and the dash.

Starting in the second row for the 30 lap main event Forsberg settled into fourth on the start and began working the high-side of the quarter-mile speedway. While he was looking to the top of Tyler Walker for third however, Forsberg hit a rut and bounced to a stop in turn four. It looked like everyone would miss him, but that wasn’t the case as the last place car couldn’t get slowed in time and came around turn four and slammed into him.

It left the GP Development, K & N Filters No. 92 with heavy damage and put an end to the night. The biggest saving grace for the evening though was that the event didn’t award regular track points since the night was sanctioned by the Golden State Challenge Series and it allowed Forsberg to hang on to his Silver Dollar Speedway point lead

Forsberg then made the haul to the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday for a Civil War Series event where he started off the night by setting his third fast time of the season with the traveling 360 club. The veteran driver then finished sixth in the opening heat race, before winning the 12 lap B-main to transfer the Basalite Concrete, Red Line Oil sprinter into the main event.

The four-time and defending Civil War Series champion lined-up in the fourth row of the 30 lap feature and played his cards right to bring home a seventh place finish on a surface that didn’t lend too well for passing. The run allowed Forsberg to stay within striking distance of the Civil War point lead as the tour hits its most busy time of the season.

Next up for Forsberg and Team 292 Inc. will be this Friday’s Feather Falls Casino point race at the Silver Dollar Speedway where the Auburn racer will look to maintain his track point lead. Going into the final month of racing Forsberg holds onto an 18 point lead in the Chico standings with just four races left in the bid for his second 410 track championship.

Then on Saturday Forsberg will head to his home track of Placerville Speedway to compete in the 10th round of the California Civil War Series season. The evening of competition will be sponsored by A & A Stepping Stone and Forsberg will go into it sitting third in the series standings, 24 back of point leader Sean Becker and 20 back of second place Kyle Larson.

Team 292 Inc. driver Willie Croft is scheduled to head north this Friday & Saturday to compete in the annual Bob’s Burgers & Brew 360 Nationals at the Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington. “Double Down” competed at his first Dirt Cup last season, bringing home a 14th place finish during the final night and will look to score the $10,000 paycheck that goes to the winner of the 360 Nationals this weekend.
