Jimmy Pettit runs 7th at Silver Dollar Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – July 28, 2008…Chico’s Jimmy Pettit looked to be ending the month of July with another podium finish until contact while battling for the runner-up spot left him with a seventh place result after 20 laps of action at the Silver Dollar Speedway this past Friday night.

Pettit went into the 22nd overall event for the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Car Series fresh off a victory the previous Friday and looked to make it win number five during this most recent show at the Chico based track. The night of racing also featured the traveling winged sprint cars of the Golden State Challenge 410 Series.

Pettit began the night by starting from the fourth position in his heat race, but the driver known as “Loveshack” got his elbows up and put the Pep Boys, Kevin Sharrah Designs No. 24p into the runner-up spot on lap two. He then charged after leader Cody Myers, but couldn’t make the move around him and had to settle for a second place finish in the eight lap contest.

Pettit then lined-up on the outside of the second row during the evenings 20 lap main event and quickly began to dice it up with front row starters Keith Bloom Jr. and Jay Youngman. After a couple laps were completed Pettit settled into second and looked to make the move around Youngman for the stop spot, but would lose a position when Bloom got by on a lap six restart.

After Bloom proceeded to take the lead from Youngman, Pettit looked to get by for second, but the pair would make contact while racing for position in turn three just after the midway point. It resulted in Pettit dropping back to seventh, which is where he would go on and finish at the checkered flag aboard the Skyway Tool Center, Pro Machine Racing Engines No. 24p.

The final full month of the John Padjen Motorsports/ Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Series will get underway this Friday evening at the Silver Dollar Speedway with Care Pools Night. Pettit will look to regroup at the event and continue the drive-for-five at the action packed quarter-mile. The front gate will open at 6pm on Friday with adult tickets costing just $11.
