Bud Kaeding finishes 4th at Tribute to Gary Patterson & claims 3rd in final GSC standings

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – July 26, 2008…Completing his first full-time Golden State Challenge Series campaign this decade Campbell’s Bud Kaeding drove to a fourth place finish on Saturday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway during the 25th annual Tribute to Gary Patterson. After 22 events Kaeding and the BK Motorsports team have finished off the Golden State Challenge Series season with a third place result in the season ending point standings, finishing behind only King of California Jonathan Allard and runner-up Tyler Walker.

The two-time Silver Crown champ ends the Golden State Challenge year with one victory, 11 top five finishes and 18 top tens. “It was a fun year to be able to run at home and compete against so many of my friends and we hate to see the GSC season already over,” Kaeding said. “It was a bit of an up and down year, but since it’s my first full season back home in 10 years we’ll take a third place finish in the points.”

Kaeding began the final weekend of the Golden State Challenge Series season by finishing 16th on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway, but was able to regroup and have a solid night on Saturday at the Tribute to Gary Patterson. The 28 year-old kicked off the final night of the GSC season by clocking the 12th quickest lap of the evening aboard the Alviso Rock, K & N Filters No. 29.

It then put Kaeding on the outside of the second row in the night’s final heat race and it was apparent from the get go that he wanted to ride the top-shelf during the 10 lap contest. The Campbell racer rode the high-scary-side to perfection and was able to take the lead from Destiney Hays at the midway point and not look back as he drove to his fourth heat race victory of the GSC season.

Kaeding then stopped on the front stretch and did a quick interview before going into the stands and giving out a pair of trophies that were donated by Mancamp Motorsports & Twin Cities Trophies. For winning the heat race he was also awarded with two sleeves of tear-offs courtesy Mancamp Motorsports.

Following a sixth place finish in the dash, Kaeding lined-up in the third row for the Tribute to Gary Patterson main event and quickly shot up into the fourth position. The racing surface had slicked off and took some rubber in spots and made for some great racing on the quarter-mile bullring. Kaeding had to fend off a strong challenge from Allard as the laps wound down and was able to do so to bring the MDR Machine, Kaeding Performance Maxim home in the fourth position.

With the Golden State Challenge Series done Kaeding will take this coming weekend off before his next scheduled race, which will be the Civil War Series event at the Calistoga Speedway on Saturday August 9. For the night Kaeding will be behind the wheel of the Werbach Motorsports No. 20 machine looking to pick up his first Civil War victory of the season.
