Adam McCarthy of San Jose (towing in with a Ford pick up and open trailer) won the Petaluma Civil War feature event at Petaluma Speedway Saturday night - 7/26/8. McCarthy started on the pole and led every lap. The feature was cut short to 25 laps - from the scheduled 30 laps after numerous yellows and several red flags brought the finale uip against curfew. Racing surface was very tricky with turns 1 & 2 especially troublesome.

32 cars - Andy Forsberg in the #92 was fast time at 12.86 followed by the #01 of Richard Bailey and the #91 of Herman Klein.

Heat 1 - 8 lap - top 4 transfers - finish, car #, name (started)
1. #19, Art McCarthy(2) 2. #83v, Kyle Larson(1) 3. #4, Adam McCarthy (4) 4. #49, Mike Monahan (3) - uneventful heat

Heat #2

1. #35, Rickey Wright, Jr. (2) 2. #01, Richard Bailey (4) 3. #14, Matt Sargent (1) 4. #8, Jim Richardson (3) - same as heat 1. Track allowed for very little passing.

Heat #3

1. #58, Matt Barber (1) 2. #3x, Allisa Geving (5) 3. #91, Herman Klein (4) 4. #48, Kirt Simpson (3) - The #2sb of Sean Becker does not make the call to start the heat in the 4th spot. The #39T of Troy Degaton goes off on lap 5 with a flat RR while leading.

Heat #4

1. #69c - Chad Compton (1) 2. #77, Mike Benson (3) 3. #29, Cameron Mendes (6) 4. #5h, Christian Stover (4) - A red early in the race for the #17 of Matt Petty and the #90x of Doug Machado. Petty would return for the B-Main. Machado was done for the night. #29 Mendes would go off with a flat RR, but return for the restart and get a transfer spot.

B-Main - 15 cars, 12 laps - Top 6 transfers with starting were.

1. #92, Forsberg (1) 2. #7, Miles Bishop (3) 3. #2sb, Becker (5) 4. #6c, Jeff Parady (6) 5. #10, Roberto Kirby (11) 6. #27, Brett Rollag (10) - Rollag and Kirby were the big movers as problems took out 2nd starting #19, Brandon Davis, 3rd starting #7 Bishop, 4th starting #43, Bradley Terrel, and 7th starting #39T, Troy Degaton.

A-Main - 30 laps (cut to 25 laps for curfew) finish, car #, name (starting) - 6 invert

1. #4, McCarthy (1) 2. #77, Benson (2) 3. #3x, Geving (3) 4. #5h, Stover (4) 5. #83v, Larson (17th) 6. #01, Bailey (6) 7. #92, Forsberg (7) 8. #27, Rollag (22) 9. #6c, Parady (10) 10. #69c, Compton (14) 11, #58, Barber (20) 12. #2sb, Becker (9) 13. #48, Simpson (13) 14. #8, Richardson (12) 15. #35, Wright, Jr -DNF (16) 16. #49, Monahan - DNF (11) 17. #14, Sargent - DNF (18) 18. #19, Art McCarthy - DNF (15) 19. #10, Kirby - DNF ( 21) 20. #29, Mendes- DNF (20) 21. #91 - DNF (5) 22. #7, Bishop - DNF (8) - multiple reds and yellow during an hour and 15 minute race. Only 14 of the original 22 starters finished. Larson clearly the hard charger as he passed 12 cars to grab a top 5. He was fun to watch passing 3 cars at one point early in the race in turns 3 & 4. McCarthy benefited from timing of yellows and reds never having to deal with lapped traffic.Still he kept Benson and Geving behind never making the mistake to create an opening. Not one of the better races at Petaluma from a fans standpoint. Larson has closed gap on Becker to a mere 4 or 5 points for the Civil War title. Placerville next week and Calistoga the following week should be entertaining.

should have noted also that the #27 of Rollag kept his nose clean, stayed away from the wrecks, and was running strong at the end to move up from last starting to finish 8th.

Grat job by the top 3 runners who were never really challenged, and manuevered very well on a dangerous track that was eating up cars. Great job to Brett Rollage moving up, and to the always exciing Kyle Larson. Congrats to past Petaluma Track Champion Adam McMarthy on the win.

On a side note on the way out I saw Andy Forsberg tail gating out in the parking lot, and I've never talked to him. Just wanted to say what a great guy. Very friendly, and willing to talk even though I caught him with a mouthful of burger. Thanks for posing for a picture.

To attempt to answer this, the Civil War Series is managed/promoted by us (JPM) with cooperation of each track's staff as the Civil War only has two paid traveling officials and myself, when there is not a conflicting Placerville race as my role there involves far more than just a microphone. This is the first year where Petaluma Civil Wars have not conflicted with my role at Placerville for the majority of the events and I have been present there for the first time in a few seasons.

While JPM officials enforce the rules for a Civil War, manage the points and the Public Relations etc the participating track promoters fill the other roles such as flagging, announcing etc. and the salaries for those performing such duties, often one of us takes care of the cordless announcing to insure sponsor recognition for pill draws, etc but rarely do we overtake a regular track announcer, thats the discretion of the promoter or track manager and we are happy to oblige if needed.

On another note congrats to Adam McCarthy last night, it was a pleasure interviewing him, often its nice to get out of that "booth" and mix with the drivers of this series during an event to get a feel for their thoughts, goals, etc.

See the post from pvvoice. That pretty much 'splains things. At this point I step out of this conversation.

Hopefully the post race interviews were okay in the infield? I have a more personal interest in that. Read into that what you will, but it's a guy with less than 10 winner's circle interviews that wants to inform and entertain. He'll get better if it wasn't good.

I was actually the guy DOING the interviewing (in flip flops, Kiddie Carnival @ Sonoma County Fair, injury to the left big toe, sorry for the lack of shoes). Sorry for the mixed signals there.

In answer to your other question, the short answer is: I doubt it. I know George Hague did at least 1 this year, so anything is possible, but I know the announcer for the next Civil War is probably already in place as well. In no way is this a reflection of Jim Soares' opinion of Mr. Sullivan's capabilities behind the microphone by the way.

Becker's spin late in the race REALLY opened up the title battle to him and Andy, Kyle's just four points back! I think if he can overtake the Shark and win the Civil War title, he'd be the youngest ever to win a traveling sprint series title in this state, and probably one of the youngest in the country.

Alissa's podium finish really helped her for the Rookie of the Year standings and I was impressed with her ability to hang on as that front wing came loose.

Hi I'm new here. I hope this is the appropriate place to write this, if not I don't mean any trouble.

Pictures from the Saturday Civil War event at Petaluma Speedway. Take a look, critique if you like. Smile
