Adam McCarthy of San Jose (towing in with a Ford pick up and open trailer) won the Petaluma Civil War feature event at Petaluma Speedway Saturday night - 7/26/8. McCarthy started on the pole and led every lap. The feature was cut short to 25 laps - from the scheduled 30 laps after numerous yellows and several red flags brought the finale uip against curfew. Racing surface was very tricky with turns 1 & 2 especially troublesome.
32 cars - Andy Forsberg in the #92 was fast time at 12.86 followed by the #01 of Richard Bailey and the #91 of Herman Klein.

A-Main - 30 laps (cut to 25 laps for curfew) finish, car #, name (starting) - 6 invert
1. #4, McCarthy (1) 2. #77, Benson (2) 3. #3x, Geving (3) 4. #5h, Stover (4) 5. #83v, Larson (17th) 6. #01, Bailey (6) 7. #92, Forsberg (7) 8. #27, Rollag (22) 9. #6c, Parady (10) 10. #69c, Compton (14) 11, #58, Barber (20) 12. #2sb, Becker (9) 13. #48, Simpson (13) 14. #8, Richardson (12) 15. #35, Wright, Jr -DNF (16) 16. #49, Monahan - DNF (11) 17. #14, Sargent - DNF (18) 18. #19, Art McCarthy - DNF (15) 19. #10, Kirby - DNF ( 21) 20. #29, Mendes- DNF (20) 21. #91 - DNF (5) 22. #7, Bishop - DNF (8) - multiple reds and yellow during an hour and 15 minute race. Only 14 of the original 22 starters finished. Larson clearly the hard charger as he passed 12 cars to grab a top 5. He was fun to watch passing 3 cars at one point early in the race in turns 3 & 4. McCarthy benefited from timing of yellows and reds never having to deal with lapped traffic.Still he kept Benson and Geving behind never making the mistake to create an opening. Not one of the better races at Petaluma from a fans standpoint. Larson has closed gap on Becker to a mere 4 or 5 points for the Civil War title. Placerville next week and Calistoga the following week should be entertaining.

To attempt to answer this, the Civil War Series is managed/promoted by us (JPM) with cooperation of each track's staff as the Civil War only has two paid traveling officials and myself, when there is not a conflicting Placerville race as my role there involves far more than just a microphone. This is the first year where Petaluma Civil Wars have not conflicted with my role at Placerville for the majority of the events and I have been present there for the first time in a few seasons.
While JPM officials enforce the rules for a Civil War, manage the points and the Public Relations etc the participating track promoters fill the other roles such as flagging, announcing etc. and the salaries for those performing such duties, often one of us takes care of the cordless announcing to insure sponsor recognition for pill draws, etc but rarely do we overtake a regular track announcer, thats the discretion of the promoter or track manager and we are happy to oblige if needed.
On another note congrats to Adam McCarthy last night, it was a pleasure interviewing him, often its nice to get out of that "booth" and mix with the drivers of this series during an event to get a feel for their thoughts, goals, etc.
