Geving scores second feature win of the season in Petaluma Speedway All Pro Series feature event

Victory shadows Friday night appearance in Civil War Series and advancement in series standings

By Bill Sullivan

PETALUMA, CA (7-19-08) – A week ago she had the car to win but only had three laps of racing in a curfew shortened feature event where she finished in second place. This week, Penngrove’s Alissa Geving finally had the opportunity to do what she does best, race an entire 25-lap feature event on her hometown track and charge her way to another top five finish…and this time that finish was a victory. This recent success will undoubtedly will contribute to her current point lead in the All Pro Series winged sprint car championship at the track she claimed the Rookie of the Year title at last year when she was just 15-years old.

Saturday night Geving brought her hometown fan base and the many dedicated Chicko Motorsports sponsors to their feet, leading every single lap of the event aboard the Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Pit Stop USA, Auto Repairs Unlimited #3X Maxim Sprint Car. Saturday’s victory is the second of the season in the All Pro Series point standings and will give the team strong momentum heading into next week’s high caliber Civil War Series event at Petaluma Speedway.

“Tonight was a great night for us,” said Geving. “It seems like we’ve had our share of hard luck lately and hopefully we put an end to that tonight. This definitely helps my confidence and that of my whole team heading into next week. I can’t wait to come back here for the Civil War race.”

Geving started her evening off with the fifth fastest qualifying time of the night, turning a 13:050 second lap on the 3/8 mile track. In heat racing competition Geving started fifth and advanced into the third position during the 8 lap feature. On the 5th lap the veteran Art McCarthy passed Geving in the fourth turn, placing her in the fourth position at the checkered flag.

For the 25-lap A-feature, the inversion placed Geving on the pole position. At the drop of the green flag the race was all “Chicko” as she hammered the throttle of the Gary Geving powered Maxim chassis and shot ahead of second place starter Bradley Terrel. During the first 10 laps Geving had muscled her way to a lead of several car lengths until a yellow flag paused the field one lap later. On the restart Art McCarthy attempted a déjà vu move on Geving, ducking beneath her in the first turn as she drifted high. Both drivers continued to race side by side down the backstretch until a red flag brought the dog fight to a stop momentarily.

On the ensuing restart, Geving was well aware of McCarthy’s presence and kept her car as low as possible to prevent another low line pass. By the 18th lap Geving worked her way to lapped traffic to secure her lead by more than four car lengths by the time the checkered flag waved.

“After the red flag I know Art McCarthy was going to be fast down low,” said Geving. “I adjusted my line and kept it lower on the restart and once we got into lapped traffic I was able to pull away. Lapped traffic hasn’t been to good for me these past few weeks. But tonight it worked to my advantage.”

Entering Saturday’s event, Geving held a 10-point advantage over McCarthy in the chase for the 2008 All Pro Point Series Championship. McCarthy finished second Saturday night and the battle for the coveted title is expected to go down to the wire in the coming weeks. This Saturday, the Hoosier Tires Civil War Series returns to town. Geving and her Chicko Motorsports team will look to carry the momentum of this recent victory into the event that draws California’s top drivers and thousands of spectators from throughout California

“I love racing with the Civil War, I’ve learned so much racing with the best drivers around and I’ve made so many friends in the series so far,” said Geving. “I hope we can carry our good luck into next week and get a top finish to maintain our position in the point standings.”

This past Friday, Geving competed with the Civil War Series at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Despite being set back in the line up for a sound penalty, Geving charged her way through the preliminary events to secure the final starting position in the A-feature. With a 15th place finish, she advanced one position in the standings and is now sixth overall in the series that has awarded points to more than 100 different drivers.

“The sound penalty really set us back Friday night,” said Geving. “I had to finish dead last in everything I started so I had my work cut out for me. We’ve been doing well in the point standings and I wasn’t going to let that slip away easily. I would have rather been running up in front but I’m happy we moved up another position.”

Alissa Gevings’ title sponsors include Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Tillett Tool, Auto Repairs Unlimited. Additional sponsors include Flowmaster, A1A Performance Muffler, Parker Stores, Kalembas Tire Center, Rossi Auto Body, Afex Graphics, ALC Machine ,21st Century Health Club, Butler Specialties, Vanlare Steering Repair, Jeremy’s Chair Repair, Hose Doctor, Fast Lube Plus ALC Machine and Butler Built Safety Seats.
