TMAC Unleashes 2007 Campaign in Florida
January 23 (Bill W) - The arsenal has been prepped, organized and assembled. Time to head South! Terry McCarl is ready to roll, but he seems to be flying "under the radar" of many 'experts' heading into the 2007 season. The veteran is quietly coming off a season in which he improved in just about every aspect on the World of Outlaws sprint tour, and he is looking forward to building on that momentum. A broken leg only slowed his momentum for a brief time in 2006, and he is chomping at the bit to get back in the groove this season.
After an impressive maiden voyage in the Chili Bowl a couple of weeks ago, "TMAC" will invade the "Sunshine State", trying to duplicate his feats of one year ago. The Altoona, Iowa native tabbed Florida promoters for more than $35,000 in 2006!
Terry lists East Bay Raceway near Tampa as one of his favorite tracks. "I always look forward to Florida. Obviously it is nice to get out of the cold, but I also have a lot of good friends down there and have seemed to always run well in Florida."
Last season TMAC took two of three Ronald Laney King of the 360's feature wins including the $10,000 to win finale at East Bay. He stuck around to sweep the two 410 features, and garnered another $10,000 to win the finale, plus another $5,000 in bonus money for sweeping the two classes. He finished off his trip, winning the $10,000 All Star finale at Volusia Speedway Park near Barberville. Three other top five runs made Florida 2006 a huge success.
This year, TMAC will again partner with Lincoln, Nebraska's Mark Burch to pilot the potent yellow #1m, aiming for another King of the 360's title at East Bay, January 25-27. The two veterans click well. "Mark Burch has one of the strongest 360 teams in the nation. He has decided in the last few years to cut back a little and that has allowed me to be able to get in the 'Banana Wagon' when my schedule allows. He and I hit it off right away and have always seemed to think the same way when it comes to set-ups."
The schedule includes winged and non-winged 410 racing at East Bay January 29 through February 3. McCarl plans to compete in the 410 winged events at East Bay, and may even compete in the non-wing events again as well. He scored a top ten in one of those events a year ago. McCarl will compete with the All Stars at Volusia February 6 through 8, and the World of Outlaws season opens February 9 through 11 at the same track.
TMAC is excited and confident heading into the season. "I am really looking forward to it. The WoO is going to be tougher than it has ever been and I feel that my team is strong enough to be a contender throughout the long season. Our goals are the same as they are every year; win the championship and try to pick off some of the big money shows."
Missing thirteen races because of his injury, the team still finished sixth in the owner's points with Tim Shaffer, Dean Jacobs and Sammy Swindell filling in. Jacobs won the Commonwealth Clash in May for the team, but that didn't scratch the itch TMAC had to get back out on the track. "That is the most disappointing thing about me breaking my leg, is that I didn't get to show what we were capable of. Now, it sounds like an excuse." McCarl came back from his injury (with at least one foot on the ground running) to rip off WoO wins at Huset's, his first career win at Williams Grove over the Pennsylvania Posse, and at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota. In all, TMAC scored 11 wins in 2006, a mark he is looking to top in 2007.
