Jimmy Pettit battles fast race track for 7th on Friday in Chico

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – July 14, 2008…Running in his 14th Silver Dollar Speedway wingless point race of the season Chico’s Jimmy Pettit brought home his 12th top ten finish of the year with a seventh place result this past Friday night.

A very fast and heavy racing surface was prevalent on Friday night and an early evening was planned to be kind to the many firefighters who are stationed at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds. Going into the event Pettit ranked fifth in the John Padjen Motorsports Wingless Sprint Car standings and looked to continue his consistent season on a night sponsored by Moore Insurance Services Inc.

A field of 15 wingless sprints showed up for the night and Pettit drew a front row starting position for the first of two heat races. The driver known as “Loveshack” jumped into the lead at the waving of the green flag and drove the Pep Boys, Kevin Sharrah Designs No. 24p to his series leading sixth heat race victory of the season.

By winning the heat race he had the duty of pulling the pill for the inversion and drew the number eight, which unfortunately put him back in the fourth row for the evenings 20 lap main event. The racing surface was very fast and hooked up on this night and Pettit was able to hold his line for the entire contest and crossed the line in seventh at the waving of the checkered flag.

The Chico racer didn’t compete on Saturday in Placerville and despite missing five point races this year he continues to rank fifth in the JPM wingless standings. Pettit will return to action this coming Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway looking for season win number four aboard the Joe Hunt Magnetos, Skyway Tool Center No. 24p sprinter. The evening of competition will be an action filled affair as the California Civil War 360 Series will also be on hand at the quarter-mile clay oval.
