Team 292 Inc. marches on through double-header weekend

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA – July 15, 2008…Competing in another two nights of racing Team 292 Inc. drivers Andy Forsberg and Willie Croft scored best finishes of ninth during this past weekend at a pair of different tracks. It all began on Friday with another Feather Falls Casino point race at the Silver Dollar Speedway and concluded on Saturday with the third annual Mark Forni Classic at the Placerville Speedway, which paid $5,000 to win.

Going into Friday’s show at the Silver Dollar Speedway Forsberg was looking to maintain his lead in the track standings as he continues the quest at his second track championship. The Auburn racer started off the night well by qualifying second fastest aboard the A & A Stepping Stone, K & N Filters No. 92 and then finishing third in the second heat race.

With the number eight pill being pulled for the inversion it put Forsberg in the fourth row for the 25 lap feature. The track surface was still very quick and the four-time Civil War champ had a tough time making it forward on the hooked up bullring. Forsberg hung tough though and was just about up to the top five when the left rear tire blew and resulted in him making contact with the front stretch wall.

Forsberg went on to finish the main event in the ninth spot and in doing so lost some points to second place Sean Becker in the standings. The next 410 point race at the Silver Dollar Speedway won’t be until August 1 and “Mr. Excitement” will go into it leading Becker by 18 digits with just four races remaining until the track champion is crowned.

Team 292 Inc. driver Willie Croft didn’t compete on Friday, but was in action on Saturday at the Placerville Speedway subbing for good friend Andy Gregg who recently underwent an operation on his knee. “Double Down” started off the night by qualifying the Guts Racing, Dale Miller Plumbing No. 16x tenth fastest in the 31 car field.

Croft then started in the second row of his heat race and held the final transfer spot until the very last lap when Kyle Hirst was able to get by, sending the Comstock Mortgage, Circle Racing Wheels Maxim to the B-main. The Sacramento driver lined-up in the sixth position during the semi and was able to move forward and finish the 12 lap race in third as his comfort level in the car began to rise.

By finishing third he didn’t get his time back however, and was forced to start way back in the 19th position for the Mark Forni Classic main event. With a racy track put together Croft methodically worked his way forward as the race went on and at the checkered flag he brought the Team Guts Racing No. 16x home in the ninth position.

Forsberg’s go of it at the Forni Classic started strong with him timing in third quick and transferring into the main event through his heat race. The feature didn’t go as planned however, as he spun out on the seventh circuit and went on to finish the feature in the 20th spot.

Team 292 Inc. will look to get back up front this coming Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway with the eighth race of the California Civil War Series season. During the last Civil War show in Chico Croft started from the second row in the feature and took the lead on the opening lap, before an incident in lapped traffic at the midway point took away his shot at victory.

At the same race Forsberg started alongside Croft in the main event and scored a fourth place finish after 30 laps of racing aboard the GP Development, Red Line Oil No. 92. The current Silver Dollar Speedway point leader will look to chip away at Sean Becker’s 34 point lead in the Civil War Series standings on Friday.
