Stephen Allard charges from 14th to 5th in third annual Mark Forni Classic

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA – July 14, 2008…Chico’s Stephen Allard competed in his first Placerville Speedway start of the season this past Saturday night and made the most of it by carving his way through the field and finishing in the fifth spot during the $5,000 to win Mark Forni Classic.

The 35 year-old racer sat behind the wheel of the David Key Trucking, Wayne Cox Gunite No. 86 for the event that pays tribute to Mark Forni, who was a big contributor to the Placerville Speedway and was also a member of El Dorado County Fair Board until his passing three years ago.

Allard started off the night by coming out ninth in the qualifying order and timing in 21st fastest out of 31 sprint cars. He then regrouped and found speed in his heat race to bring home a victory from the pole position, transferring him into the main event where started from the outside of the seventh row.

A well prepared track was put together and it allowed competitors the chance to run multiple lines around the high-banked red-clay bullring. Coming from 14th Allard got up on the wheel and charged forward making some great moves to get all the way up to fifth by the finish. It was a very good run for the defending Silver Dollar Speedway track champion and certainly should build some momentum as the weeks go on.

Allard and the Wayne Cox Gunite team also competed on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville during another round of 360 racing at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds track. The Chico driver started off the night by qualifying 20th quick forcing him to start near the middle of the pack in the main event. Allard did the best he could as the track became somewhat tough to pass on during the feature and brought home a ninth place finish at the stripe.

The next scheduled race for Stephen Allard and the 86 team will be this coming Friday’s Golden State Challenge Series event at the Ocean Speedway. During the previous King of California event at Ocean Speedway Allard set the fastest lap in qualifying and finished the main event in the fifth position. He’ll look for another strong run at the track this Friday as he makes his ninth GSC start of the year.
