Team 292 Inc. set for Mark Forni Memorial assault

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – July 7, 2008… Team 292 Inc. headed into the 4th of July weekend with hopes of running up front again and although the speed was there for the most part, the finishes didn’t turn out as hoped and the team will look to rebound this coming Friday and Saturday.

This past weekend saw Team 292 Inc. in competition on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway with driver Andy Forsberg. The Auburn competitor went into the event as the current point leader at the Chico track and began the night with some motor problems and qualified a bit further back than usual with a lap of 12.333, placing him 18th overall.

Forsberg regrouped in heat race competition however, as he drove the A & A Stepping Stone, K & N Filters sprinter to victory in the opening eight lap contest. The qualifying time then stuck him back in the 13th starting position for the main event and he was able to run a smooth race getting up to eighth by the finish. The eighth place result allowed Forsberg to keep up his streak of finishing among the top 10 in each point race so far this season at Silver Dollar Speedway.

Saturday then saw Forsberg and the No. 92 team make the haul to the Petaluma Speedway to compete with the Civil War Series. The four-time series champ kicked off the evening by timing in fourth quickest, but a collision on the opening lap of the main event left him upside down in turn three. Forsberg got back out on the speedway a couple of laps down however, and was able to finish the main event in 15th at the checkered flag.

Team 292 Inc. driver Willie Croft didn’t compete on Friday night, but was in action on Saturday with the Golden State Challenge Series at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. For the night he debuted a new car with a slick white design, but the luck wasn’t with him as motor problems plagued the team during the event.

A 37 car field was in competition on Saturday and Croft started off the night by qualifying ninth fastest aboard the Holey Smokes BBQ, A.R.T. Enterprise No. 29. The Sacramento driver then brought home a second place finish in his heat race, but following the 10 lap contest a motor change was needed to be ready for the night’s dash.

Croft had a bit of luck shine on him as he drew an outside front row starting spot for the dash, but the gremlins returned as another engine problem took him out of the running while battling for the runner-up spot. With damage too severe to continue he scratched for the night following the dash to put an end to a frustrating evening.

This coming Friday night will find Team 292 Inc. and driver Andy Forsberg looking to maintain the Silver Dollar Speedway point lead on Moore Insurance & Financial Inc. Night. Going into the event “Mr. Excitement” holds onto a 24 point lead over Sean Becker and will look to put the GP Development, Red Line Oil No. 92 into victory lane for the second time this season at the track.

Then on Saturday both Forsberg and Croft will look to take home the $5,000 top prize in the third annual Mark Forni Memorial at the Placerville Speedway. The event is the highest paying point race of the season at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds track and one that neither driver has captured in the past. Forni was an important contributor to Placerville Speedway and was also a member of the El Dorado County Fairboard up until his passing in 2005.

On the season Croft has driven the AIC Powder Coating, LRB Manufacturing No. 29 to one victory and five top five finishes in seven Placerville Speedway point race starts. Forsberg has won five times in point race competition at the track and has had a stranglehold on the big money races in Placerville so far this season.
