PENNGROVE, CA (7-6-08) – Penngrove’s Alissa Geving and her Chicko Motorsports sprint car team continued their advancement in the 2008 Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Race Series this week. Driving her Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Tillett Tool, Auto Repairs Unlimited #3x Sprint Car in two separate events over the holiday weekend, Geving found her cards to be down in the way of a top finish but managed to roll a seven in the end, that being seventh place rank in the current point standings California’s most competitive series for winged sprint cars, the Hoosier Tires Civil War Series.

On Friday July 4th, Geving spent much of the day assisting John Padjen Motorsports with their community outreach in El DoradoCounty as she joined fellow driver Andy Gregg at Food 4 Less in Cameron Park. The California based grocery chain owned by Nugget Markets Inc., was pleased to have both Geving and Gregg on hand for the pre-event race car display that gave customers the opportunity to meet the current Petaluma Speedway all Pro Points leader and now, the top runner among those drivers that are new to the traveling Civil War series.

“I’d really like to thank Food 4 Less for and Placerville Speedway for inviting us for the appearance on the fourth,” said Geving. “Its always a pleasure to meet local fans and to see the kids when they get up close to a race car. Both Andy and I had a great time helping the track in the community and its always a pleasure to do so.”

Friday night, Geving won her first ever heat race at Placerville Speedway during the July fourth spectacular. The visit marked just her third visit to Placerville Speedway in her career and a preliminary victory was rewarding as the track conditions are always challenging during the special holiday race.

“I haven’t had a lot of success at Placerville yet,” said Geving. “I am use to the flatter, tackier tracks like Petaluma. I have learned to like Placerville a lot, but I still have a lot to learn about racing on the dry slick surface. We didn’t qualify great so winning the heat was pretty exciting.”

Following her success in the heat race, Geving started the feature event 17th. Her night ended with a flat tire and no time to make repairs during the A-feature but her pit area was flogged with area fans wanting to meet California’s top female oval track racer.

On Saturday, it was back to business when the Civil War Sprint Cars returned to Geving’s home track of Petaluma Speedway. Total of 38 cars packed the pit area of the speedway where Geving maintains the weekly point lead. In qualifying, Geving clocked the 14th fastest lap in qualifying and placed fourth in her heat race to secure the pole position in the A-feature.

In the 30-lap A-feature, the green flag waved to Geving as she went into battle with second place starter Bradley Terrell and Richard Bailey, much like Geving, both drivers are two of the sports’ up and coming drivers that show a great deal of talent behind the wheel. Terell muscled ahead of Geving to streal the early lead and Bailey slipped passed Geving for the second position to ensue one of the hottest three way battles for the lead so far in the 2008 series.

With three laps complete the race underwent a red flag and once restarted it was Geving challenging both Terrell and Bailey for the lead with a vengeance. Working into lapped traffic with 12 laps complete the trio raced side by side several times battling for the lead, all three of the young drivers displaying their respective talents. On the 15th lap, Geving went to the low side of turn one and slipped beneath Bailey to battle for second place. As they traveled into the next turn a lapped car spun to the low side of the track, Geving swerved to avoid the collision but had no place to go and ended her night parked on the low side of the turn with Jeff Parady. Bailey was involved in the incident too but only received slight damage and was able to go on to win the race.

Geving’s night concluded with a 16th place finish. However, she continues to advance in the series point standings and Saturday she moved up three positions to seventh place in the point standings. Eight events remain in the Civil War Series and Petaluma Speedway will host two additional events in the months to come.

“I want to congratulate Richard Bailey on his win at Petaluma,” said Geving. “We were having a really good race tonight and got caught up in lapped traffic. I had a great car and great starting position but things just didn’t go our way tonight. I want to finish as high as possible in the Civil War point standings this year so I am really pleased we advanced in the standings despite the bad luck.”

This weekend, Geving will race two straight nights again. On Friday night she will return to one of her favorite tracks, Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Geving will be a teammate to longtime colleague Mason Moore as she straps into the Garth Moore owned Moore Insurance Services secondary car for the night.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Chico, “ said Geving. “I loved racing their Friday nights until we lost our 410 motor. I would really like to thank Garth Moore for the opportunity to drive their second car. I’m looking forward to the night.”

Saturday, Geving returns to Petaluma Speedway to continue her campaign in the weekly All Pro point series. On this night, she will have her own teammate as JoJo Helberg, the 2008 CASA Asphalt Sprint Car Champion will pilot the Chicko Motorsports back up sprint car for the evening.
