FAAS WANTS TO BE #9 SATURDAY AT SANTA MARIA!

JULY 7, 2008 --- Nic Faas is #1 right now and hopes to be #9 Saturday night at Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway. The USAC Western Midget point leader has his sights set on becoming the ninth different driver to win at the 1/3-mile dirt oval in the last nine USAC Midget events at the track!

Faas holds a 41-point lead over Robby Josett in the latest series points. Faas has a half-dozen “top-10s” this year including a runner-up finish at Ventura Raceway, while Josett’s five top-10s this season include a feature win at Ventura.

Third-ranking Scott Pierovich also sees opportunity at Santa Maria Saturday. Scott was runner-up in the 2006 and 2007 series points and a victory Saturday would go a long way toward a possible title this year. Scott has three “pdium” finishes this year but still seeks his first series triumph in three years.

Garrett Hansen won last year’s USAC Midget race at Santa Maria.

USAC WESTERN MIDGET CAR SERIES POINT STANDINGS
1 Nic Faas 383
2 Robby Josett 342
3 Scott Pierovich 331
4 C.J. Sarna 293
5 Josh Ford 280
6 Ernie Bartley III 240
7 Paul Zimmerly 219
8 Shannon McQueen 214
9 Joey Fabozzi 202
10 Daniel Bedford 171

My votes would be for Josh Ford or Michael Faccinto should he make it. The screamin' yellow 8 of Pankratz looked good hot lapping and promoting the show at Santa Maria. We'll be rooting for ya'll.

Love to see Nic Faas put a 360 in his sprinter and join the Banditos but that could be to big of a challenge for the talented youngster. Ford broke his 360 but he is able to handle two races in one night.

Will some NorCal BCRA racers bypass the boycott and come race at the fast and smooth 1/3 mile oval??? Hope so.
