Geving advances from 22nd to top five finishin augural Civil War event at American Valley Speedway

By Bill Sullivan, Chicko Motorsports Media Relations

PENNGROVE, CA (6-23-08) – One week ago, 16 year old Alissa Geving sat near her badly damaged Chicko Motorsports Sprint Car onthe infield of Calistoga Speedway, asking herself when the bad luck streak would come to an end. One week later, and a few hundred miles northeast, the soon to be Ursuline High School Senior found her answer when she advanced from a 22nd place starting position to fifth place in the inaugural Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series event at California second largest track, the 3/8 Mile American Valley Speedway in Quincy.

Saturday marked the first time the Civil War Sprint Car Series competed on the 3/8 mile track and it was just the second time that Geving took to the track, the first was just the night before during a pre-race practice that took place for competitors to prepare for the event. After testing and tuning the Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Auto Repairs Unlimited , Tillet Tool sponsored #3x Maxim Friday evening, the current Petaluma Speedway All Pro points leader was geared for action Saturday night.

As one of the final cars out for qualifying and a slower lap time that usual, Geving knew she had to overcome adversity in preliminary competition in and effort to make the A-main as she started 8th in the first 10-lap preliminary heat race of the evening. In that event, Geving overtook Brad Bumgardner, Steven Tiner, Mark Hall, Scott Kinney and Jeremy Burt to finish third and secure a starting spot in the 30-lap feature event.

Starting 22nd in the feature event, Geving set her sights on a top ten finish for the evening, looking to turn her luck around and maintain her 11th place position in the point standings. Before an official start even took place, Geving found herself starting on the outside of the fourth row, avoiding a number of collisions that delayed the opening lap of the event that tested the endurance of many competitors as it stretched in to the late midnight hour.

While her fellow Civil War Rookie counterpart Myles Bishop was busy running out in front, Geving spent much of the race driving wheel to wheel with some of California’s best drivers, including Andy Gregg, Andy Forsberg and point leader Sean Becker and driving as high as third place at one point until a dry track surface forced her to slip back two positions to finish fifth, her highest career placement in Civil War competition.

“I’m really use to the sticky hooked up track at Petaluma,” said Geving. “This track was dry and you had to be patient and calm. I got a little too excited when I was running 3rd and I know now that I should have been more calm. But it is ok because I am so excited about my fifth place finish with the Civil War, my best finish ever with the series I love.”

Last weekend, both Geving and Bishop were involved in an accident at Calistoga that ended their night early. On this night, Bishop earned his first win and Geving her best career Civil War finish. Both drivers are contending for rookie honors in the series.

‘I want to congratulate Myles Bishop for his first Civil War win. It was also fun battling it out with Andy Gregg.” I’d like to say thanks to everyone at the Quincy track for having an open practice and the barbecue Friday night. My team and I learned a lot Friday night about the track and that really helped me for Saturday.”

This Saturday, Geving will head back to Petaluma Speedway to continue her run towards the 2008 All Pro Series point championship at the track she calls home. On Friday, July 4th the Chicko Motorsports Team is tentatively scheduled to compete in the US Army, Gold Country Limousines Race for Freedom at Placerville Speedway and then in the upcoming Civil War event at Petaluma on July 5.

“I believe racing at Quincy will help me run other tracks which are also dry like Placerville,” added Geving. “I have learned to like Placerville and can’t wait to go back there as well as Petaluma when the Civil War comes back to my home track..”
