Myers Brothers Racing competes in double-header weekend

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – June 23, 2008…With the Northern California weather heating up the Myers Brothers Racing team headed for two night’s of action with the John Padjen Motorsports wingless sprint car series. The weekend began with a special night for the wingless spec sprints on Friday at the high-banked Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.

With the winged 410 sprint cars taking the night off it allowed the wingless drivers to have the top billing for the event, which was sponsored in part by Skyway Tool Center. A field of 22 wingless sprints was on hand for the big night and with no winged cars present, qualifying was held.

Mason Myers clocked the night’s fifth fastest lap aboard the Browns Valley RV No. 3m while Cody timed in seventh quickest in the Franks Backhoe No. 9. In heat race action Cody was able to score a third place finish in his with Mason finishing seventh in his respective heat.

The main event saw Cody line-up on the outside of the front row and Mason starting way back in 16th. Unfortunately Mason’s go of it in the feature didn’t last long as he came to a stop in turn two and he was officially placed 20th in the rundown. When the green lights came back on again Cody was sitting in second, but he didn’t wait long as he made the pass of Keith Bloom to put the Aces Heavy Transport sprinter into the lead.

The next lap saw Bloom get back by for the top spot, but Cody continued to hound him the rest of the way. As the laps wound down Kody Smith was able to get by Myers to relegate him back to third where he went on to finish at the checkered flag. The podium result was a great way to end the night for Cody and the team looked for more good things the following night in Placerville.

The tight, high-banked Placerville Speedway always offers up great racing and Cody continued his strong weekend of performance by winning his heat race and starting from the front row in the main event for the second night in a row. Just like the night before Cody battled it out with fellow youngster Keith Bloom and the pair ran one-two until contact on the 16th lap dropped them back in the running order.

At the finish Cody raced the Cal West Concrete No. 9 to eighth in the running order. In addition to Cody, brother Mason tallied a third place finish in his heat race on Saturday at Placerville before finishing 10th at the checkered in the main event.

After the double-header weekend of racing Mason Myers continues to sit third in the John Padjen Motorsports wingless standings and Cody has moved forward with him now holding onto the fourth spot in the points. This coming Friday night will see the Myers Brothers Racing team back in action at the Silver Dollar Speedway looking to break into victory lane for the first time this season.
