Brett Miller sets fast time & fights for 9th in feature at Quincy

By Gary Thomas

Quincy, CA – June 23, 2008…Returning to action following a week off, Chico’s Brett Miller turned in his first quick time effort of the season and brought home a ninth finish in the main event during a long night with the California Civil War Series at the American Valley Speedway in Quincy.

Miller, who is a volunteer fireman, was forced to miss the previous Friday’s 410 point event on June 13 at Silver Dollar Speedway due to being called up to fight the fire in the surrounding Chico area. With the fire being out the Care Free Pools Racing team was able to make the drive to Quincy this past Saturday night to compete with the Civil War 360 Series.

A field of 32 winged sprint cars made the tow to the American Valley Speedway and Miller came out second in the qualifying order. The 18 year-old ripped off a 15.851 second lap and it was good enough to hold up and give the Platinum Powder Coating, Wolfe Electric No. 1x fast time in the field. Miller then lined-up in the third row during his heat race finished fifth to put him into the B-main.

In the 12 lap semi Miller settled into second and ran there for the remainder of the race to transfer into the main event. “The Catfish” got his time back for the feature, but unfortunately for him the 10 pill was drawn for the inversion and it put the JP’s Paint & Body, Al’s Concrete Maxim in the sixth row.

The first couple starts saw a pair of collisions occur and Miller caught a piece of the action and was forced to change the front wing during the red flag stoppage. The long 3/8 mile track is very narrow and it makes for tough racing conditions when 20 cars are present on the track. Miller did the best he could from the back and hung in for 30 laps and crossed the stripe in the ninth position at the checkered flag.

The Care Free Pools Racing team was happy with the night and will look to get some momentum rolling with another Feather Falls Casino point event at the Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday. The night of racing will be sponsored by Riebe’s Auto Parts and Miller will go into the event sitting ninth in the track standings.
